I "heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who" states that (the second friend, that is...confusing, I know lol) Chad Johnson is a really, really super nice guy. Bodes well for on & off ice presence and impact on the team...hopefully!

Met him when he was just starting to establish himself in the NHL. Yes, he is a super nice guy, very laid back. Had some cool stories to tell but wasn't "in your face" with the fact that he's a major leaguer. In fact, I think we spent more time talking about my peewee coaching gig, which he was genuinely interested in hearing about. The kind of guy you'd love to grab a beer with.

Joe Colborne was a super nice guy too, he'd move out of peoples way in high school and would never say much. Nice guys and hockey aren't always a great combo.

Great point. Now that I know Chad Johnson's character traits I question his ability to be rough in the corners, and fight to stick up for his teammates. I want mean guys that are tough to play against, shift after shift.
Chad, Brouwer, Stajan and Sigalet marched in the Pride Parade today.

So you're saying Johnson is essentially a slightly shorter but equally nice version of Colborne...

Absolutely true. But it makes me want to cheer for the nice guys that much more. Just my opinion.

I was pretty impressed with him last year, he filled in admirably. In a 20-30 game role behind Elliott (and a better defense than Buffalo had last year) I think he will be excellent for the Flames.
Signings like this are what get teams into the playoffs -- he'll get you 5 more wins than a mediocre back-up would, and that can be all it takes.

Out on the cul-de-sac in Deer Ridge those many moons ago, Curtis Johnson was always Joe Nieuwendyk, tipping pucks, while brother Chad was all about stopping them, a la … Ed Belfour?!
“I was a Flames fan, but I don’t know what it was about Eddie the Eagle,’’ says Chad.
...
One day, when Belfour happened to be here in Calgary on a promotion, appearing along with Flames’ goalie Trevor Kidd at a Sport Smart location on McLeod Trail down south, the Johnson boys dutifully trooped down toting a stack of cards and memorabilia to be signed.
Digging through the basement recently, dad unearthed a cameo-keepsake from a bygone here.
“After Chad bought the house here, we were sorting through a lot of old stuff in our basement,’’ recalls Terry, “sort of like, ‘Chad, you have this,’ and there was this Eddie Belfour poster he’d signed for Chad. It says something like: ‘To Chad. Hope to see you in the NHL one day.’
“Can you imagine?
“It’s come full circle.”

Wow Deer Ridge Place, that's like a few blocks away from where I grew up playing street hockey as well! trippy
Yeah that's crazy. I just took at look on Google street view and I used trick or treated in his cul-de-sac many times. And that path in the middle was always my short cut going home from the mall!
That's so cool and I'm rooting for Johnson even more now!
If I were Gulutzan I'd give him the second home game in CGY.
It'll be his first home start, and also will be playing against the Sabres. Nothing like your first home start in front of the crowd you've been a part of for most of your childhood... then adding the natural fierce desire to beat his old friends.
If he's not in net that night, I'll be very disappointed.

That's a great idea. The only way he shouldn't get the net is if Elliott gets a shutout in the first game.

Colborne is one of the top 500 or so hockey players on earth...seems like a decent combo
