He's busy drafting Matt Martin's six-year, $36 million contract. Gotta cross the I's and dot the T's.

I like Weber but this is a stupid trade for Montreal.

I guess they're hoping to trade him when his actual $ paid out dips to $3mm.

Subban embraced the #canadiens history, the fans, donated $10 mill to local kids hospital, played street hockey with kids - and gets dealt.

Outside of the Flames, Subban was my favorite player in the league. He earned his good reputation.
Just so unbelievable. This is like the Flames trading a 27 year old Iginla. Huge in the community, great likeable personality. Unbelievable hockey player.
I would be absolutely devastated.

With this deal and the Forsberg contract the Preds are now at $70.8 million in SALARY expenditures ($67 million CAP)for next season.
I wonder if they will be looking to move anyone out?
Would love to get Neal on the Flames.

Clearly I'm in the minority here, but I like this deal for Montreal.
Subban is a great offensive Rover. But Nashville has Josi and Ekholm who both play that style. They were afforded that style because they had Weber playing with them and he doesn't get caught out of position. Even today though some feel he's "lost a step". Personally, I think his game rounded and he's matured as a player.
But he's still one of the meanest, nastiest SOB Dman in the league if not the most. And he gets away with it.
He still has a bomb of a shot and no one wants to go to the front of the net when he's there in his own end.
Subban, just a mess in his own end. I see the possession numbers but he maintains the puck, skating around the opposition, it counts for possession time, but them promptly caught it up quite a bit and subsequently gets caught out of position.
2 very different players. Could workout to be great for both teams. But I think Montreal got the more stable Dman.
Who's happier today? Carey Price or Taylor Hall?

Stats say it's Subban is who is the defensively responsible player, not Weber.

It'll be nice seeing the Flames play against an exciting player like Subban on the Preds.

honestly, watched a ton of preds hockey over the last couple years...
especially when weber was hurt, Josi was their everything Dman. Shutdown, PP QB, offensive/rushing Dman. The kid can skate! He was everywhere.
I don't think anyone is saying Weber sucks....but he hasn't been the best Dman on that team for arguably 1-2 years. Sort of like Gio - Brodie. Gio is the captain, the heart, the everything, yet Brodie is arguably the better defenseman. May take people outside this team a few years to see it. Same in Nashville. Everyone assumes it's Weber anchoring the line. I'd argue it's not.

The only area where this hurts the most like a few have pointed already is from a marketing perpsective. Subban planted some deep roots in that city and they just tore them apart with this move today. Off ice, this is the worst possible outcome.

Even ignoring the fact that you traded for the lesser player on the worse contract, this trade is a real bad look for the Habs organization.
If I was a Habs fan I'd be devastated today.

Hate this trade for Montreal. Got older and slower. I haven't looked, is next year's #1 overall a francophone or something? Maybe a good trade in NHL14, not sure about real life.
PK did nothing but embrace everything about that team and city. Nashville won this big time.

They are. I can't remember too many times I've seen a fan base more devastated. They feel betrayed mostly. Ownership and management/coaching are going to catch hell for a while.

The good news, Montreal fans, is Shea Weber comes with some cap recapture penalties when he retires.
Oof, that's just brutal. I'm can't believe Geoff Molson allowed this to go through. As soon as I'd have gotten wind of it, I'd have told Bergevin that if he pulled the trigger on this deal, he would get fired.

I know right what the hell are they thinking. They just wreck all the Community Support that they have been building up over the years cause you didn't want to pay pk salary yes he his not worth that much but u are the ones who gave it to him and he was always one of the players to help out and contribute to the community with money and most importantly with his time.
