I for one am fine with Marchand making this team. The guy does all the little things it takes to win, puts up points (37 goals and 61 points last season), plays strong defense, and has a "never-stop" motor. Perry was pretty lackluster this year, even if he did pick it up down the stretch. Go with the hotter player.

Canada (or I guess North America) just has too many quality d-men. I get it actually. It's a bit of a toss up when you can dress 2 rosters worth of #1 caliber D.

When it comes to other countries you simply don't have that same depth of top-flight players. It's great experience for our guys.

I'm fine with Gio, Brodie and Dougie getting more time to rest.

Letang is the biggest omission from Team Canada. 3rd top scoring d-man in the league (even though he missed 11 games). Great skater. Sound in his own end. Maybe the braintrust thinks he'll be tired after going to the finals?

Is Letang really sound in his own end? Always seems a little deaf.

I had no idea how little respect Giordano and Brodie get around the league. I've been reading lists and articles about snubs and the only person who has even mentioned them is Damien Cox.

There is no way that I would trade either Giordano or Brodie for Muzzin. I do remember Brodie having an awful game when the media mentioned that Armstrong was in attendance. Wow... I am really surprised.

Also surprised at Pietrangelo over Letang, but I guess they want to go with guys they know and trust.

Don't get the Canada defence selections at all. Passing on Gio or Brodie is one thing but no Subban, what were they thinking?

I will obviously still be cheering for Canada but considering the gimmicky nature of the tournament won't be too upset if they don't win.

Disappointed Hamilton didn't make it but he didn't do himself any favors. He declined the world championships and he showed that he had a hard time adapting to a new team and picking up a new system. It's a short tournament.

Maybe it's a chemistry or locker room thing with Subban?

Yes, I'm very happy with Brodie and Gio getting the rest. I'd have like Hamilton to get the experience on team NA, but as SB said, his slow adjustment this past year and his subsequent decline of TC likely took him out the running.

With a new coach and new goaltender(s), the more the players that attend full training camp and preseason the better. Because of this I'm not stressed one bit that Gio/Brodie/Hamilton/Backlund didn't make the cut.

That being said it's interesting that as of now the 2 D that did make the World Cup are 2 that will be fighting for the last 2 spots in training camp and preseason and would probably benefit most from being here. I'm sure they will still get a fair look and would be the favourites to make it but it interesting how that worked out.

Man I hope Wideman gets traded.

More NHL marketing brilliance - the only player for Team Canada who plays for a Canadian team in Carey Price. I don't think I'll watch this honestly. I don't really care who wins.

That USA roster is another one where they picked guys for roles.

Callahan, Dubinsky, Abdelkader, over guys like Ryan, Kessel, Tyler Johnson, Atkinson, Palmieri, etc.

Even on defense it was weird. Both Erik and Jack Johnson were horrible picks. Guys like Shattenkirk, Leddy, Faulk, Gardiner, or Martinez are better picks than those two.

Although I think they were the team most impacted by Team North America. Lots of good young Americans on the U-23 squad.

Jake Muzzin has quietly put together a couple of solid seasons but it's pretty surprising he got the call over Giordano or Brodie. Brodie in particular plays a style of hockey that is what you want to see in a showcase tournament like this. Weber has been trending down but I expect he's got a free pass for a couple more years based on name recognition like how Nash used to always make the team.

Definitely more invested in team NA than Canada.

What may be VERY interesting is seeing if they keep Monadreau together, and then seeing how they look with different quality young players on their right side (and subsequent trade targets?)

I would love to see Gadreau play with McDavid. That could be pretty to watch.

Maybe but the thinking lately about having two puck carriers on the same line, is that it doesn't work.
