I've had some experience with Red Cross before... all I want to ask to somebody hopefully more knowledgeable about Red Cross is, is it a guarantee that donations actually go to people that need it from Fort McMurray?

My previous experience has been that Red Cross takes funds in, and then decides where to allocate (aka, maybe not to what you're intending to donate towards, but to their discretion if they deem other communities more needy).

I've read "money only" in numerous places for the Red Cross.

Also saw that if you text 303-33 and type REDCROSS to make a donation (of five bucks) that will go on your phone bill.

I don't know how to upload photos from my phone. Bit my mom sent me a photo from the front door of her office. Was crazy.

She doesn't expect it to make it through.

Luckily she isn't there. Was supposed to go up tomorrow morning.

They are now into the territory of tallying entire communities that have been lost. Beacon Hill is gone, and half of Abasand.

I hope that all of these big, bad oil sands companies are going to get some positive media attention for everything they are doing.

Not going to happen.

I'd assume they'll be to blame, if anything.

I agree with you....I was just being hopeful they might get some positive coverage. I'm sure the media will find some way to say they caused it...

Its so hard to know what's true. There are those quotes and then others that say nothing has burned downtown and the hospital was close to the flames but not burned. So many conflicting stories.

I just hope that there is no loss of life. That seems amazing given the scope of damage, but hopefully that is the case.

I think he meant that people would blame them, not that he does. And by people, I mean freaks and idiots.

So this thing "jumped the river" but did it jump the river into that southern part only, or has it jumped the wider part of the river into the western areas of the town yet?

I hate to say I don't believe him. The next question was along the lines of "what about the discrepancy between 50,000 ppl evacuated and 82,000 living in the city per the census", and they really had no answer. So 30,000 people they have no idea where they have evacuated to. Or if some people are still stuck in the city.

An estimated 53,000 forced from homes. One sprained ankle is the known extent of injuries so far.

Do they shut down the air attack on the fire at night? I'd imagine that it would be pretty unsafe at night to fly and fight the fire.
