If..and its a big if...If they keep going to the olympics combined with the world cup it will be a big good thing. The formats are very different making them each unique. With the teams playing every two years maybe some rivalries will actually take shape. In soccer the Euro generates huge excitement as does the World cup but each has a different feel with countries like iceland and Ireland in the Euro, but not the WC. The intensity wont be there for the first hockey WC, but if they go to the olympics and then have the WC again in 2020, i think we will all care alot more and the Europe and NA teams will be fun and embraced.
Previous posters are bang on when they said the mistake was made in 2000 by discontinuing the WC.
-How badly will the South Koreans do? I would normally like the idea of a host team to help spread the game but not when they are 23rd in the world. The tournament would be better with a Belarus or Latvia who would at least be competitive.
If I was a South Korean I'd still want to see my team in the tournament, maybe to see where they stand in the hockey universe.
As an example, if Canada hosted the World Cup of Soccer I'd rather see Canada play than not play even if it meant they were in a pool with Brazil, Italy and Argentina.

Not so sure I agree...living here in Korea there is literally no one who knows anything about Hockey or the NHL outside of expats or guys that went to school in Canada.
Soccer is different, almost every country participates at a pro level of some kind and it is huge here as well.
There is rumbling here that the KHL wants to drop a team in Seoul and maybe Busan, but they dont even have a rink that would suffice at this point.

They brought in some Canadians ringers, but they are all crappy.
Matt Dalton
Eric Reagan
Bryan William Young
Brock Radunske
Michael Swift
Mike Testwuide
I'm not sure why they didn't aim higher. This is the first time Korea has naturalized foreigners for use in athletics apparently. Maybe those are the only guys who showed any interest. I dunno.

^Those are great reasons to move to South Korea. You also can't forget the world's fastest internet.
I have a few friends who moved there for work and I would love to do the same for a year or two. Unfortunately the wife has an irrational fear of getting bombed by North Korea and accepting a job there would likely result in a divorce.
LOL...funny the only place I hear about North Korea is from North America. Here they treat it like the old drunk uncle wearing a lampshade at Christmas. Pure embarrassment.
Seoul is an awesome city and Korea has been a great experience.
