On the second pairing, with Hamilton? That’d put Jokipakka at 5th.
I’m actually happier with Jyrki, because I think he has less of a chance to be picked in an expansion draft. Olli would beg gone for sure.

He'd fit in nicely on any pairing. Jokipakka at fifth is not a bad thing. You do need quality on your third pairing.
Not sure how you could be happier with Jankowski when he hasn't even played a professional game in his life let alone an NHL game. Maatta has proved he could play in the NHL.
Which shouldn't be confused as Jankowski hate but no need to put down Maatta to make yourself feel better about Jankowski.

The trading down is also hurts since the guys picked from 14-20 have all played a good amount of NHL games as well.
But that's a discussion that's been had a million times.

^^^ That is true. But, things have worked out, so there’s no point in worrying about it.
Besides, I like everyone in our top 3 better than Maatta.
But, good points.

I said I like Jyrki better, as in Jyrki Jokipakka. I quite enjoy Janko as well, I’ve seen a lot of him in college.

Well to be fair if Maatta broke onto the Flames 2013-2014 season, Flames likely don't make a bunch of moves.
Maybe they don't trade for Russell and/or Smid.
It is really hard to project how the Flames defense would have unfolded in the past few years if Maatta was a Flame.

First, Benzo is completely terrible. Nobody likes it.
Secondly, Teravainen is an undersized center. Yes, looks like he is playing center at the moment, but the Hawks have played him on wing quite a bit. I too liked Teravainen at the draft, but the experts seem to be right about him - will likely have to adjust to the wing to be an effective offensive player, as his size may prevent him from becoming a competent two-way center.
Also, it isn't like Teravainen has been experiencing tonnes of success. I thought he was surprisingly good in the playoffs last year, but also surprisingly 'meh' for most of his time otherwise. The Hawks also tried him on the top line with Toews and Hossa for a while as well.
For me, Jankowski will always be linked to TT, but I don't think it is a loss at all. I think Jankowski can really be a much more important player for the Flames down the road than anything TT could have been on the Flames. TT is an undersized player who has played with some exceptional talent in Chicago, or has received 'easy' minutes against lower quality of competition, but is not a half a point a game player, yet doesn't offer any physicality or an ability to function as a defensive specialist. I bet he would have gotten more points on the Flames simply because the Flames would have probably force-fed him some more top 6 minutes, but he would not have been some key guy in the rebuild.
Not a horrible player, just not someone anyone should have buyer's remorse over in any Jankowski argument.
I am still really high on Jankowski. I think he will be able to slot in at so many different positions on the Flames' roster. If you watch him on the PP, he makes some really good passes and has great vision and patience, and he can also snipe it himself. He is a very responsible 200ft player who can hopefully help on the face-off dot. He can be a very good complimentary winger with size. He has a tremendous reach that he uses well.
I was happy with the selection, and I am happy with him still now that his NCAA career is over. I can't wait to see how he adjusts to the pro game.

Yeah, that’s true, sureLoss.
Just bringing up some points. I’m sure I’d be very happy if we had Olli, but truth be told, he’d likely be our #3 defenseman, and as a #3, I like Hamilton better.

Before Treliving got Hamilton there was still a massive gap between Brodie and any prospect. Wotherspoon might be a NHLer. Kulak? Culkin? Who knows? Still years off before Hickey, Andersen, or Kylington likely make the team.
Getting Dougie got the team a Dman in that under 23 group that we know can play and has top pairing potential.
Also at that time Brodie wasn't the Brodie we know today

I bet Olli Maatta would still be an AHLer right now if he were drafted by the Calgary Flames. Would have about as much NHL experience as Brett Kulak. And would still be injury prone. We would be talking about how he's at least better than Sieloff.

Erm, he never said that. Don't put words in his mouth. He rightly pointed out that had we picked Maata, I very doubt we'd have been in on Hamilton. Which is a fair statement to make. Doesn't make any sort of comment on comparing them though.

If I was Jankowski I'd reject the Flames offer and get away from this rotten fan base as quickly as possible.

If he thinks we're nasty just wait until he goes go Vancouver or Montreal or wherever. We're pretty tame

Why do you say that?
I fail to see any makings of a 'rotten' fan base here. I think many people here are quite in favour of Janko going forward.
Teuvo and Olli don't really matter at this point, because we have better players filling their holes. Teravainen would've been our 2C: Monahan or Bennett could fill that role. Maatta would be our 3D, and we have Dougie Hamilton filling that role quite nicely.
I think Janko's gauged our fan base pretty poorly if he uses that as a reason to leave.
Edit: oh please don't tell me that was sarcastic....

You're suggesting that, had we picked Maata, we wouldn't have needed to acquire Hamilton, which would mean we would would have had our 2015 draft picks.
I'm sorry, but that implied to me that you thought Maata was a suitable equivalent to Hamilton.

I think most of the criticism isn't with Jankowski, he's okay. It's with the regime who picked him and over played his worth.
