What the hell is the point of wet tires if all wet races start under safety car and don't race until the track is dry enough for inters?

So Pirelli said these tires would only last 28 laps and we are now looking at most cars running them for 35 laps if they finish the race. I'm on lap 40. 12 laps left. No way anyone pits with a dozen laps to go.
Ferrari struggling again, Verstappen with a strong performance so far. That first corner has been killer for almost every driver. Force India quietly finish strong again and Williams who once looked like they could contend for best of the rest after the Mercs are now clearly behind Ferrari, RB, Force India and possibly even McLaren.

Awkward! Lewis discussing Nico with Max as if Nico isn't standing right there.
Radio thing with Nico seems silly.
Very few close races towards the end. I think only 3 cars finished within striking distance of the car ahead.
Won't be much of a championship battle if Nico can only win when Lewis gets hit on lap 1 or has car problems or a grid penalty.

-The rivalry between Nico and Lewis is entertaining to say the least. Even the champagne spraying on the podium had intensity as Nico seemed to try to rupture Lewis eardrum and then Lewis targeting Nico right square in the face. The dialogue is hilarious from these guys as they get their jabs in, especially Nico I have noticed the snotty undertones.

-I agree, when ever I hear this "black and white" rule being discussed I instantly imagine Bernie's stubborn little weird creep face. This could easily be resolved with a simple team/driver meeting among all involved. At the end of the day, the product being sold is "racing". If a simple message conveyed to a driver can keep him competitive on track then allow it. Perhaps make it discretionary? allow the engineer to explain the situation to the stewards and then get permission to communicate the message to the driver.

4x4,
All racing drivers can lazily be described as whiners when vocally expressing frustration. As far as champions go, I think Lewis is handling himself quite well.

So Stupid. This has to be fixed!
Nico Rosberg has had 10 seconds added to his race time by the stewards in Great Britain after Mercedes were deemed to have given him illegal assistance over team radio during Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
Rosberg’s demotion means that team mate Lewis Hamilton is now just one point behind the German in the drivers’ standings, with 168 points to the Briton’s 167.

I strongly disagree with that penalty. There clearly was an issue with the car and he should be allowed advice from his engineer to remedy the situation.
It's one thing to tell a driver that he needs to start braking 30m further into a corner it's another to tell him to shift through a gear which offers no performance advantage whatsoever.

I'm a little confused at what the stewards had a problem with. I even watched the explanation video on f1 site.
It wasn't that they confirmed he was stuck in 7th, that he should avoid 7th or to change the setting to chassis 01. It was because they confirmed he should skip 7th when shifting.
Well if getting stuck in 7th was an issue, wouldn't that potentially cause failure?
All that being said, let's say he gets stuck in 7th but it doesn't cause a failure. Is that what we want to see? Isn't there a famous clip of Schumacher stuck in 5th late in a race and he holds on with some masterful driving? Or is it garbage because we want drivers to race flat out? Let's be honest, car failures lead to unpredictable results, which is often what we ask for.
I'm very torn on this one. If being in 7th would've cause failure then it seems ok to coach Nico to skip it. But if all it would've done is slow him, then I can see why they were penalized even if a little chincy.
Makes me wonder if maybe they would've been ok to just say 7th gear is the problem without explicitly saying shift thru 7th. If Nico gets enough info to figure out to slip that gear, then you could almost say if he effs up after that then it is because he's clueless.

Could Apple buy F1?
I have no idea if this blogger or site is legit but wow that would be crazy good news imo. The alternative is a Middle East group who would no doubt have awful human rights records and encourage more disgusting regimes to get races.
Apple on the other hand, would almost certainly guarantee a huge boost to f1s online presence, streaming and footprint in the US.

Turned on FP2 to watch a bit before work to find out Merc was 1.6s clear of the field in FP1. Yeah let's hope that changes as the temp rises. Apparently it was raining in Hungary last night so the track was damp this morning.

Crazy Q1 this morning. I've never seen 5 red flags in one session before, must be the most ever.
Hamilton overreacted on that double local yellow in the latter stages of Q3, thanks again Alonso!!
I'm very much looking forward to seeing what Ricciardo can do on this track coming from 3rd on the grid.

Race lead turned out to be a bit of a dud but other battles good. Funny hat Lewis seems to just toy with Nico. Rosberg gets close and Lewis just pulls ahead at will.
I'm not quite done but that was really clearly a double block by Max when Kimi tried to pass.

Yawn overall.
So bummed that Daniel wasn't able to hold P2 after the start. Kimi and Max battle was entertaining.
And yet again, Stupid radio comm controversy. Loss of braking is a safety issue you twits!

Poor Button. Good qualifying then it falls apart. Funny to see Hamilton just play with Rosberg. Otherwise ya, bit of a boring track. And agree, Max needs to watch his moves.
I was just thinking about tires, maybe it would be interesting to, instead of making the top 10 start on their Q2 tires, make them have to use them, but not necessarily start. It would allow for some different strategies, anyway and on a boring track like this, I think anything to space it up would be good.

What did you guys think of Max's defence on Kimi? To me it looked like 2 moves, and given he has done stuff like this before I was surprised he wasn't punished.

I thought it was pretty obvious. But nowadays who knows. Yellow flags, even double yellows, no longer mean slow down, the radio isn't for talking, wet tyres are just for following the safety car until the track is dry enough for inters or slicks and so on and so forth.
Then again I've always found that drama and politics is part of European sport. The drama isn't always limited to the actual sport like it usually is in NA. There are no stock answers to questions and there is no matter too small to get worked up about. All rules are more like guidelines that can be adjusted as necessary.

I agree and think he made a second move although a slight one. Add to that it was pretty hard to get a good focus on Max's movements with Kimi darting back and fourth so quickly behind Max's car.

Very good points. I have a feeling there's going to be a lot more drama next year with the changes coming on the 2017 car.
F1 bipolar? In the past the changes were made to slow the cars down, Now they're speeding them up. 2017 cars will be dramatically faster with massive boots and added downforce. I haven't read into these changes a great deal but with making the cars 3 to 5 seconds a lap faster, does this mean we say goodbye to DRS?

I would imagine most of the gains will be in cornering, so DRS would still be handy for max speed overtaking.
I'm looking forward to the new cars. Hopefully it will mix up the grid a bit.

I don't think 2017 will be the end of DRS. More grip should lead to less performance loss (aka aero push); the car behind in theory should suffer less from running in 'dirty air'. How often do you see teams take front wing out on pitstops? Almost never, virtually every stop bar the leader they are putting front wing in.
I'd expect to see the trail car be able to remain closer for longer before using up tyres and brakes before attempting an overtake. It should make DRS and MGU-K deployment even more important and perhaps actually relevant in the shorter DRS zones.
