The number of playoff games a player has been in depends above all on the quality of teams he's been on. It is not a measurement of his individual ability. Brandon Bollig has his name on the Stanley Cup; Mark Scheifele doesn't (and has only played in 4 playoff games to boot). Only a complete fool would think that makes Bollig a better player than Scheifele.

That could be your your schtick
I don't have a schtick. You're the one who goes into thread after thread and derails them with the same old garbage.

So you wouldn't consider 3.75M money well spent if the Flames could trade Gio for Toews tomorrow?
No. A top-pairing defenceman is worth $6-7m. Nobody is worth $10.5m unless he's in the Art Ross conversation year after year. The Hawks overpaid on the incorrect assumption that the cap was bound to continue increasing rapidly.

Thats why all the McDavid hype and lott hype is nonsense to me. You can't win if your paying guys nearly 11 million a year with the cap where it is now. Right now the Jets spend around, what, 62 million or so? How can you possibly justify that Toews is worth a sixth of that whole roster? Chicago should have picked one of Toews or Kane and cashed in on hopefully a kings ransom for the other. I just dont see how in a cap world you can tie up nearly a third of your roster space on 2 guys.

Suggesting the Hawks are finished because they were beaten by an excellent team in an extremely close series is way premature IMO. Toews and Kane may still have some Cups in their future.

Not suggesting that they won't win another cup. They could. The contracts could also be an anchor that prevents them from winning another cup. Nothing crazy about suggesting that.

Who would have thought after 2009 the Pens wouldn't not even make the cup finals again? They had a young Crosby, Malkin and Staal. Winning the Cup is difficult. I don't think it's unrealistic to suggest they won't win another cup at all. Especially if they are paying two players $10.5M a season for another 7 years. While one of them is a good (not elite) two way center that tops out at 60 points. Toews should be getting a bit more than Bergeron. Not be paid the highest in the league.

Who will be the #1C for Canada this fall? The Captain?

Steve Stamkos?

Head to head Stamkos kept Toews to 1 goal and 2 assists in the 6 game SC final series. Sounds like Toews had an awful series, not worth 10.5 M

Stamkos on the other hand had 1 assist in the 6 games. Stamkos had 7 goals and 17 pts in the 20 playoff games he had before he ran into Toews.

The Blackhawks had to trade Versteeg and Ladd back in 2010 after winning the cup due to salary cap issues.

Ironically Versteeg was eventually traded back to the Blackhawks in 2015 just in time to win another cup. Due to parity in the league and salary cap issues, there tends to be an off year after a cup win. The Hawks actually had a stronger regular season this year versus last.

To insinuate that the Blackhawks are done because they faced a very strong Blues team and took it to 1 goal is ridiculous. They have been dealing with salary cap issues since 2009. They are the closest thing to a dynasty in the salary cap era. Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are 27 and 28 years old. Toews and Kane may be expensive, but Seabrook, Keith and Hjalmarsson are bargains. You also have young guys like Teravainen and Panarin who will only get much better, and are on entry level contracts.

The Blackhawks will effectively have the exact same team next year, and they are quite young.

I wish the Flames had the problems that the Blackhawks have.
