Yeah, the best outcome is these guy's protest falling flat, the community telling them to piss off and then them leaving and being completely ineffective.
Which, judging by that Rolling Stone article, is the way it's heading.

The real problem is that a large segment of America has latched onto their founding mythology as their religion and way of life. They quote the constitution as their Bible, and treat the socio-political realities of 240 years ago as literal truth and way of life today (and forever-more). They use this jargon and limited viewpoint to justify their actions and avarice for more land and possessions.
Just as many would accuse religious fanatics of taking barbaric realities from the dark ages to be incontrovertible and timeless truths and twisting them to their own advantage for personal gain, these people are doing the same.
The founding myth of America; the eternal fight against tyranny and oppression by a righteous, rebellious people is the only frame of mind that some of these people have in which to construct their world-view. Hence, you get the militias and fanaticism in gun ownership because they see their weaponry as crucial to their righteous struggle.
The Federal government is in a bind because any martyrs and bloodshed could cause more copy-cats to do the same. That's exactly what they want though. It's the same mindset as ISIS, as the KKK, etc. in wanting to ignite religious or racial wars through some extreme action to win over the "regular" folk over to their fanatical causes.
The best strategy might be to wait them out, let it all fall flat, let it fall off the CNN and social media radar. In a few months time everybody will forget about them and apathy will take over. Isn't that what the Canadian government does every time there is a big news-making First Nations blockade or armed protest?

What it really highlights is the stupidity of terrorism as a legal concept, particularly in a country prepared to enthusiastically allow any whack job to go out and shoot twenty or thirty people any time they want to add meaning to their pathetic broke ass lives.

These idiots thought they would have support of the locals. They believed they would ride in, seize the facility, and the locals would support them by supplying them, and they would get further support from other militias, like the support they got in Nevada. The problem is that the locals haven't gotten on board and the cavalry didn't come riding in. I hope when this is all done, and it sounds like it will be soon, the feds have the balls to drop the hammer on these clowns. Hit them with every charge on the books, especially the weapons charges. Make them felons which means they lose their rights to their precious guns. That would be the most delicious irony of this whole engagement.

Aren't these guys preppers to? I don't understand how you don't come with 80lbs of rations and a plan for when they cut off water. They should have been ready to 2-3 months without re supply

I guess it depends what they end up getting charged with, when and if they are taken off the reserve. Doesn't make any sense at all that when you are being told by residents that you are not welcome, that they would insist on doing what they are doing. If they believed such a movement would have any traction at all, why go ahead and undermine yourself when it's clear you have no support?
Obviously it was their plan all along, but if that's the case I can't see why these yahoos didn't plan to bring stuff like... Food and water. Seems pretty basic to me. Maybe they figured they could hunt their meals, but I imagine any shots fired at game will lead to more shots fired, it will just come from a bush somewhere 900 yards out.
By the looks and sounds of things these guys could screw up a wet dream.

The fact that Cliven Bundy walked away unscathed caused this incident to happen, and indicates that the next group will do the same if nothing happens to these guys.
Unfortunately, the authorities are in too tough a spot to simply arrest them. I wouldn't want to be the official who orders my officers in to the situation where they will be shot at by nut jobs and/or end up shooting said nut job.
In a perfect world they'd go in, arrest them and there would be no violence because they'd chicken out of resisting. But it would only take one idiot to pull the trigger and start a firefight.
I predict they will be left alone and at some point they will become bored, declare victory, and leave.

And then you arrest them. That's the best case scenario in my mind. Wait until public spotlight fades, then throw them in a deep hole

Perhaps. It didn't happen to Cliven - he still is walking around being interviewed.
Maybe they should go and arrest Cliven for the grazing fee issue while his boys and the other nutcases are all in Oregon. That would amuse me.

Would it embolden anyone though? This is a little different because it involves the same family as before so they're going to believe they're winning since they're all nuts.
I feel like if they end up having to leave because nobody comes to help it's just forgotten about. They aren't gaining anything. But you never know with these types of people I suppose, we say tomato they say COMMUNIST!

Arrest them on weapons charges. They have taken weapons into a federal building, which I do believe is a felony. That would require them to forfeit all of their weapons and ammo and be placed on a restricted list, preventing them from having future access to guns. The irony in that would be so delicious!

This is funny:
Nutjobs: "We are holed up and ready for action, but we forgot snacks, please airdrop us food".
Feds: "Go ahead and drive to the grocery store - we don't care about you".
