That 5 on 3 pp was brutal. Don't think I've ever seen a team not score on a full 5 on 3. I thought the game was over after that. Momentum was all for the Preds. Then as the Gary Galey said, Hartley did a smart thing to challenge the called off goal. It totally killed the momentum the Preds had, silenced the crowd, and slowly but surely the Flames clawed back into the game.

I feel bad for almost giving up on them a few weeks ago, but the team has certainly turned it around.
Also nice for once when the NHL adds a new wrinkle into the game we are the best at it. I remember when the shootout came into the league Calgary was dreadful at it and gave away tons of points that way. Nice to be on the winning side of that for once.

Was traveling today and only caught pieces of the last 20 minutes of the game and OT. Gio's not got an "OMG he's injured" thread going here so I assume he's OK but has there been any news of an injury or concussion protocol kicking in because of this?
Neal deserves time for this. Reminded me of the "casual" hit on Crosby a couple of years back that knocked him out for ages.

The Flames are built for 3 on 3 ... 5 mobile, offensive D and a game-breaking forward.

I don't know how Johnny isn't leading the NHL in votes for a 3 on 3 tournament. I get the "let's make a joke and vote John Scott in" thing but Johnny is just f'n amazing. I'm putting money on whatever team he's on.

Not every hit to the head deserves a suspension and not every penalty James Neal takes deserves a public outcry. The two players were traveling at a molasses like speed in anticipation of a whistle. More force is delivered to Gio's head every night in net front scrums. 2 minutes is exactly what was deserved.

I totally agree with your general sentiment, but not with this hit. It's not accidental and injury is his only intent

Does it really matter? All Star game is lame and 3 on 3 not going to help it IMO. Will have about 5% of the intensity that this reg season 3 on 3 has.

This six game streak really puts the first part of this season in perspective. Rattled of 12 straight points, and the Flames are STILL on the outside looking in. This streak was absolutely crucial in remaining relevant. If they were even half decent at the start of the season, they would be leading the Pacific right now. Very telling of how bad they actually were. Is it confirmed that was the worst start in Flames history?
Now that they are back in the thick of things, the PP and PK simply HAVE to improve. Looks like Brad has thrown his lot in with Ramo, and Ramo has responded to a degree. You can't teach talent, but Ramo has improved. Even the most ardent haters would have to agree with that.
I daresay, with Ramo continuing his improvement, and by some miracle the PP and PK become average, the Flames will lock in a spot. Which will be awesome. I love playoffs.

Hamilton now has even +/-. Considering he was at one point -13, that is pretty remarkable.

Ugh, that Neal hit is so blatant. I missed that during the game, so I'm glad somebody caught it. Dirty, unnecessary, and was it also after a whistle? That's the trifecta of being a rat. I know it wasn't full force, but that's the kind of stuff the league needs to be stronger on, not a hit in the flow of the game that ended up accidentally injuring someone.

He was only ever a -11 at his worst point, but I get your point. He's slowly turning into the defencemen we thought we were getting back in July.
If Brodie doesn't go down with his injury, Hamilton likely gets nursed into the team on the 3rd pairing, slowly works his way up onto the 2nd pairing and never has the massive issues he had when he was paired with Gio from the start of the season. And I bet his stats would look even better than they do now as well.
Hamilton's first 15 games: 2 G, 2 A, -9, PIM 12
Hamilton's last 15 games: 1 G, 5 A, +9, PIM 6
If he carries on improving at the same rate, our top 3 defencemen are going to be scary good. Just need to find a long term #4 defenceman for Hamilton now.

Johnny is so predictable in OT.
My girlfriend was laughing as I started with a little greedy hobbit voice when Johnny stepped on
"Gimmie the puck, gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, gimmie. Oop... close. Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie. Dougie? Good. Up the ice to score, up, up, up, up. Kris? Goal. Good."
