So stop blaming a bad goalie for letting in bad goals? Yes this is Hartleys and to a greater extent Trelivings mess. No question there, but Ramo (or whatever goalie the Flames have used this year) still sucks and still pisses fans off with bad goals. Of course people are going to lose it. It drives me nuts every time I see Ramo start.
Yet he's been the one that's gotten been over .500 since his return. Could Ortio have gotten over .500 in that span? Maybe, but I highly doubt it with what he has displayed.
For you it's always been all Ramo's fault when we lose. That simple eh? Everyone understands that goalies are paid to stop pucks and yes that first one was bad, but he still kept the team in it despite the Ducks basically having their way with the Flames for 50 minutes of the game. Look at that stat that was tweeted out - the Flames had ZERO +30sec zone time in the Ducks' end while the Ducks had plenty in Flames'.
The system is just bad. It's always a circus in the D zone.
What? I haven't changed anything in my posts. And even if D men play perfect games, you still need a goalie. Pucks will always get through...always, I dont' think there has ever been a game of hockey where there has been 0 shots on goal. ever.
Never mind, arguing over wording. Pointless
There has never been a game where all 6 defenceman played a perfect game. Never will, of course you need goalies.
I'm just saying that I'd rather have a solid top 6 and a 1b goalie, rather than a bunch of scrubs and a number 1 goalie.
Right now we have a bunch of back up goalies and 1 defenceman that is playing like he's top 4.

I have a feeling this turns into a goal 40+% of the time on a NHL goalie. Most goals coming from the back door pass which Ramo was clearly aware of and was cheating for based on how he falls after it goes in but that defensive coverage is oiler-esque
Also worth noting on the replay, Perry shows the pass the entire time and makes a incredible play to turn what looks like a pass into a shot.

Jesus that is "this guy scored" bad. 3 Flames in that pic all just reaching for the puck.
Well...judging by this thread, the seasons is already over, the Flames have no possibility of ever being better, and they should probably just fold the franchise and save everyone some time.
It's one loss.
Yes, they should have found a way to win with the lead heading into the 3rd period. It didn't happen. So be it. I don't know what to say anymore. It's just not our year and obviously it'll be a struggle to stay out of the bottom 5 in the league.
And?
What else should they do? They're playing hard, they're competitive in every game, and they're just struggling to win. It's not the end of the world if they have a down year. Veterans will be moved, more prospects will be drafted, and this team will still eventually get better.
Giordano might just be having an off year. I am fully confident in his abilities long term, even if it's as a 2nd pairing d-man.
Hamilton had one bad play tonight and it cost the team. He'll still be fine.
The forward core of Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett, Frolik and maybe even Backlund will be just fine.
We don't have a long term option in net, but we will. Gillies or McDonald will fill the net at some point.
It's just going to be one of this years where very little goes our way. We had all the luck in the world last year and it was great. We all loved the team and loved each other. Let's not tear these same players down because the luck has been against us this year.
I know nobody will agree with me, but I watched the Flames give a solid road effort tonight and had a tough time in a tough building against a team they have traditionally had a tough time against. Not much more to say about it.

I would love to see a chart of the PP goals against. Something tells me a ton of them are from those exact same in tight spots yet the PK is designed with 3 guys up high. Its as if we are defending our own PP where the point is the emphasis yet every other team uses the point to spread the defenders out before getting it back down low for some finesse.

Watching this team is extremely frustrating. You have 2 or 3 guys play good one game then another 2 or 3 guys the next. Such a crapshoot. Zero consistency. Heck even at my job i could be consistently good two shifts in a row. It's not like I forget how to do my job. Gio needs to step up and lead this team. I don't buy that he's injured blah blah. He's a professional that just seems to be cashing in on his new contract.

I wonder how many games you could have copied and pasted this "only one loss" post into?
The silver lining is awfully tarnished and we are fresh out of polish.

I think the first step in getting better is realizing that we just suck. Like that episode of fresh prince and that clown episode. We just suck.
Unfortunately that should be Gio. He's just........gone. Really would like to know what happened to him. Something is way, way off.
Seriously tho It has to be the shoulder stil. You dont almost amputate your arm and miss the amount of time he did to come back and play the way he was.
Once again our defencemen managed to hold onto the puck long enough to kill any momentum and allow the Ducks to set up at every chance. This was an issue in our own zone and also trying to enter the o-zone. How many plays did we have 2 or more guys driving the net, only to arrive there and the d was still holding onto the puck?
I would guess that our own D kills 30% of every power play "slowing down the play" ther is no urgency and no ability to make a quick decision. Start making quick damn plays already, right or wrong. But do not kill all momentum and take your time and then still f it up.
I would say typically this kind of issue is from lack of effort from the forwards to come back and help out. However in most cases this year the forwards are in a position to recieve and the D just cannot, will not make the play in a timely fashion.
The D played a completely different game agains the hawks, they were decisive and quick and we had a great game. Tonight they were back to 2015 fall doldrum levels.
I feel like I have to write all of the same stuff over and over again to vent my frustration.
We have one guy in on the forecheck with no support, so even when they do managed to intercept or disrupt the play there is zero support so it is a wasted effort.
What a contrast between a whistle at the Ducks net and our own. After every whistle they made our guys pay just for being close. In our end there was 3 ducks and Ramo there to fend for himself. You could also see that they were getting to Ramo as he started making all sorts of self defensive shoves, swings etc towards the end of the game. This is a souless team right now. I have said it before but that is all on the "leadership". I can't believe how pissed off I am in our overall lack of spine. There is some real issues in that room. Very few guys have there head in the game. They are getting around like a bunch of 15 year old boys who just got dumped for the first time.
Wake the f up!
I am not sure what our routine in Anaheim is but the Flames shoulf fly in the day of the game, go straight to the rink and fly out afterwards. No golfing no f all until they prove they can get their heads in the game.
I think that Hartly was the big brother last year and it worked. Now he needs to be a boss and I am not sure that he can make that transition after the bonds they made last year. There are many many system issues that just aren't being sorted out and that is all on Bob and his staff.
Also after the Ducks iced the puck he leaves Brandon Bollig and co. out there agaisnt the Getzlaf line? That is almost grounds for instant dismissal all in itself. These guys can't see the forest for the trees right now and someone better start saving the feely touchy approach and make the difficult choices before this gets un-saveable. And i am not talking about the season, I am talking about the culture of that room.

Much of CP has gotten frankly stupid about goaltending
And that will never change. It's too easy to pin it on goaltending when there are much bigger problems with this team.

Well, he should either not be playing or the Flames should have never signed him to that extension if there's an issue. They must have had him checked out physically before throwing that amount of cash at him.
I could be wrong, but I don't think it's physical. Something just seems way off. And if it is indeed mental, at least things should look much better whenever it is he figures out what the issue is.
I just read the thread instead of watching the game tonight. Sounds very depressing.
I remember reading that if the team isn't in a playoff spot by American Thanksgiving, the chances are very low that a team can make up the ground.
I also cannot understand where the team from last year went. That Gio contract looks horrible now and it hasn't even started. Also, Hartley's system (or lack thereof) is getting old.
And that will never change. It's too easy to pin it on goaltending when there are much bigger problems with this team.
I think there are issues everywhere. Not like the sky is falling, but they can indeed improve pretty much everywhere.
One of those areas is goaltending. This franchise needs to figure out who will be the go-to guy for the next 5 years. Not throw a bunch of 'maybes' out there and see what sticks. They need someone to rely on. We don't have that yet.
