What the #### is going on down there. This is insanity. They are criminalizing these kids before they are even 10 years old.

While there's all of this romanticizing about "well in my day kids had respect!" there's also the fact that "back in my day" when a kid was acting up in a non-violent or non-hurtful manner, they were dealt with on a far smaller scale. Kids didn't get handcuffed for acting up in class. Punishment was handled by teachers and administrators, not police.

Kids are going to do dumb things. Kids are going to defy authority.

Unless the kids are getting violent or doing something actually illegal--there is absolutely 100% zero reason to get police involved in a minor school infraction.

I am sure if we had video cameras and the internet we would see at least as many and likely more crazy stories of kids punishments "back in the day."

What's going on now is that we hear about these stories where in the past they would go unreported and likely ignored by most everyone, parents, school officials etc.

My brother's 8th grade teacher stuffed him into a garbage can as a punishment.

We had the strap in elementary school. It wasn't used often but it was quite an event to discuss around the playground when it was. Haha. Somehow we all survived.

I really don't understand how it's gotten to the point we can justify police action in classroom settings. Kids want attention, positive or negative, and having a run in with a cop is going to be a big deal for someone seeking attention. The drama that this event creates is not worth it. There's better ways to deal with a disruptive student.

Back on my day the average class size was 25 students, not 35.

But hey, kids don't vote.
