I love when people think no one is trying to hit him. They are, Gaudreau is just smart and fast and able to get out of the way. Guys who go out of their way to try hit him end up being embarrassed.
Especially because one Canuck just took out a team-mate smashing into the boards completely missing a shifty Gaudreau on the Monahan goal in tonight's game.
Some of those nuck fan's aren't the brightest crayons in the box...

From what I remember, probably the biggest hit he took last season was thrown by Datsyuk. Likely because Datsyuk is one of the only players in the league who's a bigger ninja than Gaudreau.

BAI feel the after watching the replay of o.t. I feel the most under rated discussion is the chemistry between JG and Wideman. It was a difference maker in a few games last year aswell as in the game tonight. Wideman might no be the quickest of d-men but his hockey Iq is pretty impressive.

Datsyuks hit was good ( all though a little late). Thompsons hit in game one vs. Ducks was. Right into the boards on the numbers.

This is one part of his game that can be compared to Gretzky's. I won't go any further.

That's all well and good, but Datsyuk's hit was legal and well placed.
There's a big difference. Gaudreau is hard to hit cleanly with a legal check. But it's impossible to guard against someone stepping outside the rules like Thompson in that clip, who simultaneously boarded and cross checked him from behind.
If we go back over a year, Corrado absolutely clobbered Johnny with a vicious cheap-shot elbow in Penticton.
Not really fair to use blatant cheap shots as examples of how he can be hit.

He was talking about the biggest hit Gaudreau took. This one has to be one of the most grueling hits. Legal or not.
Hamilton looked terrible in his own end. I kept seeing slow decision making plays leading to a turn over. The 2nd Vancouver goal he over committed to the puck carrier. He is young and can and should improve in this regard but I was hoping he would be more polished in the defensive zone. With that said, it is game 2, he is still learning the system so all of this could and is likely premature. As soon as Brodie is healthy I put him with Giordano.

I think his offensive IQ is impressive but he makes roughly 82 boneheaded defensive plays a season.
Still, for what he brings offensively? More than worth a bad play a game.
That play was a thing of beauty. An inch of space probably makes the difference between the Flames goal and the Canucks breakaway. I can safely say I LOVE 3v3.

Yeah, IMO Brodie is still well ahead of him and should be on the top pairing with Giordano.
Hamilton is young, and he is adjusting to a new team and a new system. He should be getting easier minutes. Especially when you factor in that the best part of his game at this young age is his offense - give him a chance to utilize that skill and excel while he continues to develop the rest of his game.
Meanwhile, Giordano/Brodie can keep doing what they do - be the best defensive pairing in the NHL.
I still believe that when Brodie gets back, the Flames' D will start to look like we all expected it to.
Can we say the comeback kids are back? I think the Flames ability to come back in games gets into the minds of other teams. It's better to play with leads but I think these comebacks make the Flames more dangerous and determined.
