I could see Williams signing with a team like St. Louis. A team who, despite high expectations, has had trouble in the playoffs. They would probably love his clutch scoring. Maybe the Shorks too.

I'd be totally fine if the Flames just stayed out of free agency completely this year. Probably next year too.

Maybe if they could pick up some defensive depth for a good value, but when does that ever happen in free agency.

Stay the frack away from Belesky and his stupid contact demands. Mother of pearl.

theScore 5m5 minutes ago Carl Soderberg is reportedly seeking $5-million per season.

Would I rather have Backlund than Soderberg straight up? Yes. Would I rather have Backlund at $2M less per season than Soderberg? Yes please.

I know it's different with RFA/UFA but this makes Backlund's contract look great.

Soderberg is probably better than his production shows as he was behind a lot of other forwards in Boston.
Big body, responsible two-way player with production. He's not really young but doesn't have a lot of hard miles having played most of the type in Europe.
So I can see why teams would be interested. Frankly I would be.

Soderberg is going to make a team very happy.

Soderberg on a 2 year deal would be great, but he will be after a 5x5 is my guess. And he actually deserves that I think.

Soderberg at 5x3years = good. Soderberg at 5x5years = tough pill to swallow, although I think he's only going to get better.

He has all the tools to become a really good player, and I actually think he snags a 5x5 contract.

Mark Spector @SportsnetSpec
#Oilers one of first teams to contact UFA defenceman Adam McQuaid's agent Rick Curran. Very interested in adding size, toughness.

Gah, the Chiarelli connection makes that lock IMO. Hate that McQuaid is going to be squishing Flames. Please dont sign in EDM McQuaid, sign here instead!

I think Glencross sits back and waits for Belesky to sign.

He's the next best LW on the UFA market.

He struggled in Washington, but he'll still get paid. My guess is 5 years, 20 mill, no trade clause

Arizona, vancouver, Dallas, Edm

Defenseman Mike Green and center Eric Fehr will not be returning to the Capitals next season and will test the unrestricted free agent market on July 1, the agent for both players told CSNwashington.com on Thursday

As per CSNWashington

I don't see how he gets a contract like that.

His post-deadline performance probably sees him get $3-3.5 million AAV over 3 years.

I do really want Green and would hate if he went to the oilers. I could see him going to the BJ's

I don't think there are any other LW UFA who have scored 20 goals. Even once, let alone multiple times.

His stint in Washington does hurt him though, I agree.

Detroit has been after a right handed defenceman forever. I think they're going to go after Green real hard.
