The only time this will really bug me is if it's a flight where you had to pay extra to book an assigned seat on the flight, because inevitably it's always someone asking you to move from an aisle you paid for near the front to a middle seat near the back. At that point you want to say sure, fork out the cash right now because I know you didn't pay for an assigned seat but then of course it is usually a family and you'd look like a jerk.

Yeah, it's poor etiquette to choke the person in front of you.

The flight time from LA to SF is around 1 hour.

Not if they're the kind of person that wears flip flops on a plane. All bets are off at that point.

Seats recline for a reason. IF my seat reclines I will recline it if I want to...but I will do so politely so as not to mash laptops, disturb meal/snack times. That said I usually don't recline much at all unless my back seriously needs a change of position. But don't you dare kick my seat or anything in protest...as I said they recline for a reason and flight attendants (outside meal times) ALWAYS side with the person in front who reclines. Good enough for me.
The worst is the head rest puller. ON the long hauls, if I can't get the exit row so I can stretch my legs out fully I will intentionally take a seat in the last row to avoid it. It's my number one pet peeve on flights. I also will tend towards aisle seats as it minimizes the headrest pull.

I never knew reclining a seat that reclines was such an issue. Wow. I usually don't recline mine except when it's a domino effect (when the person in front does it then I do it to get my angle back).
But seriously, the seats recline, it's an option for a passenger to use, just like turning on the overhead reading light, why is it inconsiderate to some of you?

Whether you like it or not. Reclining is a right.
Now, throwing a tantrum and acting like a baby because someone exercised that right. That's more the definition of selfish.
I recline because it makes me more comfortable. The fella in front of me? Whether he reclines or not is none of my damn business. It's his right. If he does. I live with it.

Good point. You finally settle in for a nice "nap" that will equate to your night of sleep before you hop in a car 8 time zones away trying to drive in a completely foreign place, and some guy reefs on your headrest to get up and down every 30 minutes waking you up. So brutal.

Fat people are the worst for this. Can't get out of their seats without grabbing the headrest in front of them. They also love to grab the roof of vehicles when getting in and out.

^They are the absolute worst for that.
I fly almost weekly if not multiple times a week for work. This thread is agitating me because all of this #### happens to me constantly. So I'm just going to leave it be.

And if it makes the person behind you less comfortable, is that not selfish?
It's not selfish at all to move about your seat, and if there's incidental contact, so be it.

There there. It'll be ok.
It's a bit scary the first few times you fly unescorted.

why dont they make hand handles at the bottom of the overhead compartment so people can grab them to get up instead of grabbing the seat in front of them?

I'd think that would be a safety issue. Something for people to bump their heads on under normal circumstances, and a danger during turbulence.

It does grind my gears, but I can't blame the person for using something that is there for them to use. It's a problem with their planes and the quest for airlines to cram as many seats in it as possible.
I'm at the higher end of average for height (6'1") and if I am using the pull down tray and the person reclines, I feel like I have little t-rex arms when I am trying to eat. I have also been on planes where the reclined seat jams into my knees.
It is inconsiderate, but not because of the person. It's the airlines that are inconsiderate.

There is a long list of airlines/divisions of that offered premium seating/service at a higher price. Every single one has failed.
Don't blame the airline for catering to the needs/expectations of a clientele who demand low prices above all else.
