Always happens after a loss. Remember in 04 Calgary lost Game 1 to Vancouver something like 6-1 and everyone said that the Flames didn't belong and they should put in Turek for Game 1.

As much as I have not been happy with Raymond, I think you put him and Poirier in and tell the boys to forget about the rough stuff and physical play and just keep skating and drawing penalties.
Maybe even Bollig should come out for a guy with some more speed (ie, Granlund).
|
I agree.
Though last night I just couldn't believe how slow the team looked. Ducks always seemed a step ahead. The Flames need to focus on skating and clearing the crease. I think a couple days of video will do them a lot of good.

IF we lose game 2, who would want to save Bennett from playing anymore? Never say die with this Flames team, and if they can somehow even it up at home then that's all well and good. But admittedly if we lose the next game it looks bleak. Also have to consider what message that sends to our guys - not icing the best roster.

Always Earned.
He has earned his game time. The organization's showing it is willing to "win" might go a long way down the road when his contract comes up.
I can't see anything positive from saying "Sam, you have played well, but yeah we want to save money so sit down".

|
We should all care about his contract considering even an extra year of cap-space might prevent a Chicago situation in a few years. Just because it's not a big deal now, doesn't mean it won't ever be.
But agreed, that it sends the wrong message to him and the team, so there's not much you can do right now about it. They have to keep playing him at this stage.

bah, flames have money, just re-sign Bennett one year earlier. Cap will probably be 100Million by then.

I think being in Chicago's situation wouldn't be a bad thing. Let's face it, they're perennial contenders and have to deal star players while still getting good young players. If the Flames are in that spot, I wouldn't complain.
I think Monahan is the future captain of the Flames but I think Bennett is a HUGE piece of this team moving forward. Not letting him on the team as soon as he was ready lit a fire under his belly, short changing him a year off of his contract would probably do the opposite

Not sure about the cap part, but you're definitely right on the money situation. They spent a few years spending to the cap when they should have been rebuilding and saving money. The only reason Bennett would sit would be because of a coaching decision.

They only lost 5-3 in game one in 04.
They're not out of it yet though.

Game 2 against Detroit was pretty bad thought 5-2.

Hell, Minnesota lost 6-1 to St Louis 8 days ago. Then they came back and won the next 2 to eliminate the Blues.

Well it wasn't easy sitting through six ####ing fog horn and OHHHH OOOOHHOHOOO OOHHOOOOHOO OOHHHHOOOOO celebrations, but I found the Ducks fans to be classier this time than ever before. Additionally, the fans around me were actually very knowledgeable about hockey & Canada which was refreshing. The guy knew what the Rideau Canal was AND what icing was. In Cali! Also, I'd estimate there were probably 500 to 1000 empty seats, but the fans were pretty darn loud. I will give them that.
We all congregated by the tunnel pre-warmup to give the boys encouragement, and they acknowledged us which was sweet.
There were a few positives to take from this game, although not many. A loss is a loss, and we still have a chance for a split. Guys like Sammy and Colborne were playing hard all game. There were plenty of mistakes from everyone, but I didn't necessarily see them give up.
The Ducks on the other hand played a perfect game in my opinion. They had the perfect system vs the Flames, and executed it perfectly.
I hope ol Bob has one last trick up his sleeve here, and I hope Huds, Ferly & Johnny are OK. But I doubt Huds and Ferly are.
I think Johnny was sat for the one brutal giveaway in our end, and because they were taking liberties with him and we were down 6 bagel.

Why? Teams are expected to win at home in the playoffs. You're not in trouble until you lose at home. Going back to the dome for Game 3 down 0-2 would be par for the course, particularly given our struggles in the Honda center.
It's like tennis, winning at home is like holding serve. Don't freak, man.

Flames looked lost to me last night - against Vancouver they were able to hit and skate - last night not much of either.
They need to find themselves quick - Relentless fore-check and puck pressure - lots of skating - they won't be able to match the Ducks physically - I don't mean they should completely abandon any physical aspect to their game but their primary focus should be getting back to what they do best.
Injuries are just a huge concern though - Gio, Bouma, Byron, Diaz, Hudler, Ferland.

Schlemko and Wotherspoon both finished even with 14-15 minutes each.
Backlund and Bennett both finished +1 with 16-17 minutes each.
That's about it though.

I thought Colborne played well also. Highlight of the game for me was when he levelled that d-man.

I don't know how many times I uttered it to myself last night, but I couldn't help saying Man the Ducks look good at many points during the game. Especially Perry & Getzlaf. There really is no weakness in the Ducks' game at all. Great skating team, obviously skilled, very tough, and very big. To boot, their best players are big, tough & extremely skilled.

One guy who needs to be better is Jones. He was a force for us against Van, need some of that back in this series. Especially if Ferland is out..
