I found I had way more issues doing things through windows upgrade rather than the download tool method. Every computer I've tried pushing through a forced windows update to get 10 to download has failed. The download tool has worked on four machines I've tried it on.

Finally just went into Windows Update via the Control Panel and got one computer updated. No issues yet. Not sure Windows 10 is all that great though. Pretty meh for me.

The other computer, I decided to stick with Windows 7. Cancelled my reservation but can't get rid of that Windows 10 icon in the status tray. Not sure how to get it to go away.

That icon doesn't like to go away, here's several methods to do it #4 is probably the best.

Upgraded more or less successfully. Couple weird gripes.

1. Some games don't work in full-screen mode, had to set it to "windowed-fullscreen".
2. Cortana is mute. It can hear me, but doesn't speak. Sound for everything else works.

I have an older core 2 duo windows7 computer with a 40GB SSD and also a 500GB hdd. I had 10GB of space left on the SSD but was worried if this was enough for proper functioning. The windows 10 installation failed twice but worked on the third try. Checking my storage I found parts of windows 10 stored on the 500GB hdd and still 10GB of space left on my SSD. I just found it interesting that the installation did this with out my input.

Upgraded my main desktop .. Literally forgot I started the upgrade, and heard a noise from that room a bit later.. Was at a snazzy new desktop. Looks and feels great so far, really can't complain at all. Dunno why I didn't use onedrive bedore

I've got an HP laptop that's about 6 years old, upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 and oh boy do I regret it now. Takes about 3 minutes or so just to start up. Painful. I used CC cleaner to delete a bunch of stuff of the laptop after the upgrade and I decided to delete the Windows 7 files so I can't even go back to it........not my smartest move. Once it gets going it seems ok, but the wait time before I can even do anything is pretty bad.

I'm seeing similar boot times on a variety of hardware. On a fast desktop I don't notice it but on slower systems man Win10 takes a long time to boot up not sure why. And I find this surprising because Windows 8 boot times were very good and almost instant on a fast system with an SSD.

Only issue I had after the upgrade was it wouldn't connect to my router, its always a pain trying to resolve an issue with no internet. In the end I found out I had tunngle installed and once I uninstalled and removed the VPN virtual network driver everything worked fine.

I had slow boot times and random freezing as well. I think it's due to the new programs that start up at the beginning of a boot. This includes Microsoft Edge, Cortana, Cortana Search Online and a variety of other things I have no idea about under the hood.

What I did was this:
- I disabled as much as I could for programs that boot on boot up and that helped boot times. Cortana's ability to search online was one of the biggest culprits I found.

- I used disk cleanup (system tools version) and removed old update and install files. Also helped boot times slightly because you're deleting like 20GB of old windows 7 or 8 OS info (should not affect your other files, you should delete if you aren't going to restore win 7 or 8).

- Downloaded, installed and ran CCleaner to delete obsolete temp files, internet cookies etc. as well as used it to clean registry.

- Ran a defragmentation on my mechanical hard drive. Took like 8 to 10 hours+.

Random freezes? Gone. Boot up times? Slower than 7 or 8, but noticeable difference (I think a few minutes to about a minute). This on a laptop I've owned since 2008.

My wife's laptop with touchscreen had the same issues as well. I did the same on hers and now she's happy instead of raging about how it's sluggish and slow.

One of the biggest issues with upgrading Windows OSes is the junk left behind in the process. It's like updating a classic car to have a new engine, but leaving behind a carburetor in the process. Why microsoft didn't include a file clean up of some type is beyond me. Microsoft also always seems to build new OSes that crap on old slow hard drives.

Touching back onto my two-touch scrolling, I randomly tried it today for some reason and it was fine despite having done nothing in order to fix it.


Weird. It is reversed where scrolling up goes up so that's throwing me off for a bit.

Did touch pad settings show up? Should be a "reverse scrolling" option you can tick/untick.

EDIT: I am also curious now if you can just search reverse scrolling in Cortana. I haven't tried it.

Found it now, had to dig a little deeper than before in Mouse Properties->ELAN Smart-Pad for my Acer laptop.

Well if you've already upgraded/activated Windows 10 and blew away your old files anyways, you might as well try a clean install. Download the media creation tool (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10), setup a USB and boot from it, then do a custom install and completely remove all of the partitions on your OS drive and let Windows create it's own and format them. That will almost guarantee better performance vs. an upgraded OS, no matter how clean you think it was

there shouldn't be any difference between a clean install off media (USB/ISO) and the "reset everything" feature built into Windows itself? that option also seems to blow away the c: drive if you tell it to.

A reset will format the drive, but not change the partitions. Windows 7 uses a different partition setup for base installs than 10 does, so one would assume you'd see better performance if you let Windows 10 setup the disk itself from scratch

upgraded two computers today - my main rig and an older one that was giving me issues running win7

both of them did well and are now running great. id like to say that maybe a fresh install would have helped more, but for now, I'm happy
