Flames may have released Murray:

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Douglas Murray not on the ice this morning. Has been skating with the team on a tryout basis the last few weeks. #Flames

Roger Millions @RogMillions
There is talk Douglas Murray's PTO is over with #Flames. Will look for confirmation.

On the other hand they may have just given him the day off, if they felt he had too many on ice sessions in a row.

I know Murray is slow as molasses, but he's got great experience and has been a steady defensive presence on a number of good teams. I wouldn't mind adding him as an extra Dman for the stretch.

If the Flames had gone on a winning streak, or the Kings et al had blown it in the last few games, you might have seen them sign Murray and rest the regulars some for the last few games. As it is, I don't think they will risk it.

yup:

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
Doug Murray's try-out has expired. He will no longer practice with the team.

I don't see a risk. If Murray doesn't play a single game, it's probably a good thing. But in the event of more injuries down the stretch and playoffs, being able to plug him in instead of a rookie (or paired with a rookie) might be beneficial.

What's the risk? If he gets burned a few times he doesn't play again. Hartley's been pretty consistent about that.

EDIT: ^^ Annnd the point is moot.

Flames must not have seen enough of an upgrade over existing options - Potter, Diaz etc.

Murray is a really good guy, Habs loved him in the room last year. He just can't keep up in today's NHL

Maybe the XXXXL helmet order couldn't be filled in time for this year.

Too bad for him. Everything I have ever heard of the guy makes me believe he is one of those great character guys and a great team mate. Was hoping things would work out, but sometimes these feel good stories just don't end up as such. Hopefully he will land back in the NHL somewhere. Was nice to hear of him speak highly of the team.

It always sucks when you watch the game pass someone by. Whether it is injury or the game changing.

I hope he can find work somewhere in the NHL, but if not i am sure there are opportunities back home in Sweden.
