Ok so few thoughts here
- the deal was done at the dying minutes of UFA, Sven has to clear waivers next year. This is just my interpretation, but a 2nd round pick was the most they felt they could get for him.
- Either between clearing waivers, Sven losing all his confidence (Source: Kelly Hrudy, Sven walking around with his head down, his interpretation that Sven feels embarrassed that he used to be a top dog but got passed by a team of prospects and he's still on the fringe)........ or maybe, he asked for a trade?
- Why Vancouver, the only team in the division? Vancouver might be the only team offering (or offered the most) because of the connection to Green (his former coach? or at least getting this from SN)
I'm not a fan of the trade, but I can see why it was made.

Like the trade if it's in 2015. Three 2nd rounders would provide a lot of leverage this year!

Sven broke CP, hilarious.
Good kid, scared of his own shadow though. Never thought he'd amount to much, good luck in Vancouver Sven.

Seriously though, this isn't as bad as everyone's making it out to be. You can't just say "OMG we traded a 1st rounder for a 2nd rounder". We traded a questionable 1st rounder that was drafted under the previous GM who the current GM obviously doesn't want and who hasn't done jack at the NHL level. I like what the guy on the last page said, trade him before he becomes Nemisz and all we get for him is Kevin Westgarth We should be dancing for joy that we got a 2nd round pick for him. I hope Sven Baertschi tears it up for the Canucks just like Tim Erixon did with the Rangers
|
*looks at Brandon Bollig, Derrick Engelland, Hunter Smith*
Because we won't just draft a Kevin Westgarth.

The more I think about it the more I like it. Sven wasn't going to Crack our lineup full time, he's waiver eligible next year. I just wish he was moved out of our division so if he does turn out it doesn't bite us as hard.

I feel kind of indifferent to it...I was always a Sven supporter but he hasn’t really shown much at either the NHL or AHL level to move up the depth chart.....
I really don’t like that he went to the Canucks though......perhaps he can find his game again in a different system...just not against us
Best of luck to him!

At the end of the day hearing from people connected to the team Baertschi was not going to play in CGY. #Flames got some value.

I have watched most of the AHL games. Sven hasn't been very consistent and that's why he was dealt. He needed to elevate his game, but he hasn't. He is waiver eligible next year, so if he didn't make the team we would only get a 4th or 5th like we did when we acquired Colborne.
I don't mind this trade at all. This draft is great, so a 2nd should get a very good quality player.

Would have wanted an additional prospect back or another pick. But I don't think Sven would have succeeded with our org anyways.

To get a 2nd for an RFA that won't crack top 6 on this team based on the performance of the last couple years....well done Brad.

8 goals in the AHL, I didn't like it at first but when I think about it is he really gonna be an NHL guy next year where he has to clear waivers

How do you know it's going to be a deep draft in 2017?

I do like that his waiver eligibility next year is now a rival's problem, not ours. If he's still a fringe NHLer next year they'll either have to ride him out or keep him in the minors, or risk losing him for nothing.

Really? I get that people may not like this deal but do we have to use it to dismiss a recent draft choice. Hunter Smith is far more than a plug "cuz size".
