I think the other problem is that PPV has made it inaccessible to a lot of fans. No one knows who any of these guys are. Sure they have fights on cable, but generally not anything marquee. At least the UFC throws a few big fights on FOX every year. I know wrestling isn't super comparable but the WWE have completely changed their business model to a subscription basis and seen more of the casual fans come back for the big events.

I recognize that both of those examples aren't great examples because they're each their own entity, whereas boxing has numerous promoters to deal with, but something has to change in order for people to get attached to the fighters.

Breaking news: Pacquiao to have shoulder surgery for "significant tear" in his right rotator cuff, according to Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
Apparently happened 2 weeks before the fight. Easy choice to fight injured and not postpone, waiting a year or more and maybe he doesn't recover or the demand isn't the same and that's a lot of money gone.

Yeah I realize Pacquiao is now 3-3 in recent history. Mayweather and Marquez were obvious defeats. The first Bradley fight was ridiculous though. And at least that last Marquez fight was super entertaining. Even the Bam Bam and Algeri fight were amusing.

With the Mayweather Pacquiao fight, it was boring but helped me personally better legitimize Mayweather's record. Some of Mayweather's previous bouts were clearly to pad his stats. Like seriously, Maidana twice?

Any way I don't disagree that Mayweather is a good, smart fighter. But I don't find any of his fights entertaining. But being 38 now, it's probably best that he keeps fighting the way he does so maintain his quality of life after boxing heh.

This is why Al Haymon is doing the PBC, because he wants to create his own UFC. I mean he's time buying network TV space (meaning he's paying to be on rather than the other way) to try and create it. Haymon is a bit of a mystery man, he's got tons of (other people's) money to burn, but pretty much never is seen. I don't like how he matches his fighters (usually against bums), but if eventually it gets all the best fighters in PBC, it might actually make it easier for the sport to get recognized.

One thing I've definitely noticed is how they really haven't mentioned the actual names of the titles in title fights (WBO, WBC). There will probably be PBC titles soon enough

yeah sounds like a tomato can in September to get to 49-0 then Pacquiao again on May 7, 2016.

People will still pay to see if Mayweather loses, that's how hated his is that he's turned it into millions. And Filipinos will pay anything to watch Pacquiao walk across the street.

You can say Pacquiao attempted to pad his stats by fighting Branden Rios, Bradley (twice/one failed by judges) and Chris who?

Mayweather did fight Saul "Canelo" Alvarez...and Maidana is a tougher opponent than any the 3 guys I mentioned above that Pacquiaos fought.

Well after that Bradley loss, Pacquiao had to rebuild his career a bit, so yeah he had to pad his stats.

Of course Mayweather has a perfectly legit reason to pad his stats too to maintain his perfect record, but I wish Mayweather would make the fights interesting by destroying his lesser opponents, rather than just playing for points, because you know he could probably have obliterated some of his more recent opponents.

Mayweather has been stripped of his title because of failure to pay $200k sanctioning fee for the fight.

"It's a complete disgrace," Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe told ESPN.com. "Floyd will decide what, or if any, actions he will take. But in the meantime he's enjoying a couple of hundred million he made from his last outing and this has zero impact on anything he does.
Good riddance, the guy himself is a complete disgrace.
