Two isn't as good, but Bill Murray still kills it and the chemistry between the main three and Sigorny Weaver is still amazing.

Do, Ray.. Egon!

Love them both, but oh well. Blankall nailed why Ghostbusters worked so well, and why this won't.

Seriously. If this movie does as we all expect and craps the bed I want to see Female Ghostbusters 2 wher Vigo comes back but this time he wins.

Its about time New York was ruled by the scourge of Carpathia.

And the Black woman? That is just straight-up racist.
Yeah, black actors have made a lot of progress since the 80s in terms of non-stereotypical (or at least positive-stereotype) roles in sci-fi. They've gone from being pure cannon fodder and streetwise enforcer types to being captains, mission leaders, and scientists (especially scientists as in Interstellar and the Martian... chalk that up to NDG.)

So, casting a black actress in the sort of awful stereotypical role that black actors have largely moved beyond in sci-fi is an awful choice.

That was genuinely painful to watch wasnt it? I cant imagine 90+ minutes of that.

Had to watch it again, it gets worse. The opening line of "30 years ago, four scientists..." is just bad. Winston Zeddemore was no scientist, he was a hired hand to help with a busy workload.

Seriously... one of the lines in the trailer was "Ow! that's gonna leave a mark!"

Bad bad bad.

I'll grant that they have higher production value and quality than they had in 1984.

That is all.

So, the opening bit (wrong as it is) states that we've moved 30 years into the future...and everyone's apparently forgotten what happened 30 years ago?

I'm not sure what to think about this one. The 'humor' in the trailer didn't make me laugh, and I was even cringing at the black lady's introduction/bits.

I had been going to give this a shot and see...but now I might wait 2-3 weeks to see what the audience reaction is before making my decision to go or not.

Reddit speculation is Stantz and Venkman are the villains trying to find Spengler's ghost.

That would be absolutely wonderfully awful.

I generally like the cast (save maybe Leslie Jones). I actually enjoyed McCarthy and Wiig in Bridesmaid. Kate McKinnon is definitely one of the bright spots on SNL. So I still have hope for this movie, but man was that trailer bad. Not funny at all.

I wish this trailer came out before Rock hosted the Oscars, I would have loved to see his reaction.

Well that's stupid, in this universe the previous Ghostbusters never happened.

Also I think it was clear the reason this Ghostbusters happened is because Murray didn't want to participate, so why would he come back to play the bad guy?

Actually, I think it has more to do with Ramis dying. By all accounts, Murray had started to warm to the idea just before Ramis died.

This movie has nothing to do with the originals.

I still call BS on whoever came up with that idea. Murray wanted no part of it, I can't see him coming back to such a horrible idea.

Also this http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/n...cameo-20150901

Quote:
As for the cameo itself, Vulture reports that Murray will not be reprising Dr. Peter Venkman, who the actor portrayed in the first two Ghostbusters installments. Instead, it's rumored that Murray will play the polar opposite of a Ghostbuster in his small role: A debunker of the spiritual world. Original Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd also filmed a cameo as a conspiracy theory-obsessed taxi driver alongside Kristen Wiig.

So does this mean that our society has officially run out of ideas?

I could. It's the sort of silly #### that Bill Murray does.

That's the kind of bad that could actually ruin the original for me. I don't think I can take the chance, I may have to pretend it never happened, like Grade 7 gym class.

Nope, just that Hollywood rarely buys them. No one's willing to take a risk on something like Star Wars, or Terminator. Unless there's already a following of book readers, in which case they'll give it to us no matter how bad it sucks.

After reading these comments, then watching the trailer, it was not as bad or over the top as I was expecting! A bit overblown, guys?

It doesn't look super funny, but just some jokes and quirky characters. The black lady from SNL wasn't over the top or stereotypical (yet), she just seems like a New Yorker...
