I agree that RNH was mishandled and probably didn't reach his potential (although he is still young and part of that had been due to injuries) but his ceiling was way lower than most of the other top picks. Like I said no amount of development was going to turn RNH into Stamkos or Tavares. If you look at the draft as a whole it was pretty weak. No real stand out players and not very deep.

Flames dmen prospects and the value of dmen make it tempting to say Ekblad over Johnny; however, I agree with GranteedEV that we have a top pairing for the next several years. I'd be challenged to say whether any of our prospects develop into another game breaking offensive player like Johnny looks right now. Monahan is very talented and clutch but not sure about game breaking.

Looks like Forsberg picked up the pace

Player - GP - G - A - PTS - +/-

Forsberg - 53 - 18 - 30 - 48 - +21
Gaudreau - 52 - 15 - 24 - 39 - +9
Ekblad - 51 - 8 - 22 - 30 - +4

I think at this point its a 2 horse race between Ekblad and Forsberg.

JG would really have to turn it on to catch either of them IMO.

I'd hate being a Caps fan watching what Forsberg is doing.

yeah... Forsberg is almost a PPG pace! that is insane.

JG will need some more pre-new year LA magic to get the hype going again.

Klingberg is firing it up lately, I think he's at least joined the conversation. Wonder what his point totals would have been if he played with the Stars full season.

Johnny's fallen off the pace big time as it looks like Forsberg has a slight advantage over Ekblad in a two horse race.

A grand-total of 66 games played and 2 goals! Yeah, they don't get much more lopsided than that.

fair enough...but we shouldn't be too upset.(not saying you are) Ekblad is a 1st overall pick and Forsberg is in his 2nd full year of pro hockey

JG being in the race is pretty good

Johnny being nominated is good enough for me. Hopefully one the bonuses in his contract is a Calder nomination. Forsberg kind of came out of nowhere so that's pretty annoying. But what Ekblad's doing is special. Probably the most dominant rookie defenseman season since Phaneuf's, and Phaneuf was 20. Hell I'd say he's having a better season then Phaneuf's considering his age and how sheltered Phaneuf was. I can't speak to Ekblad's quality of competition but just looking at his game logs he's playing top pairing minutes already so I imagine he's going up against the top lines. An 18 year old defenseman coming in like that and doing what he's doing is just unheard of. IMO it's his to lose unless Johnny or Forsberg hit PPG over the course of the season. Ekblad's going to be a treat to watch when he hits his stride and deserves the hype.

Gaudreau's recent slower pace coincides with Hudler being sick not producing either.

Still plenty of hockey to be played.

Good point. Also, with Glencross back in the lineup it adds another difficult LW for opposing teams to cover. Without Glencross LW was Gaudreau, Raymond, Bouma, Bollig.
