Nice, a lot of hip hop on that list. I'm confused why they put that Young Thug song in the top ten though. I could name at least a dozen of his songs that I liked more than that one this year.

By this point in the year, it's clear what the consensus picks of 2015 are: Kendrick Lamar's zeitgeist-defining To Pimp a Butterfly, Courtney Barnett's fiery and soulful Sometimes I Sit and Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit., Sufjan Stevens' moving Carrie & Lowell, maybe Grimes' nervy art-pop, too. Outside of these records -- popping up on so many of our editors' lists, albeit in shifting variations -- there was plenty about 2015 to love. Maybe too much, actually, because it's possible to look at each of these individual lists and realize we're all living different 2015s, one filled with adventurous electronics, finely-rendered R&B, bracing jazz, haunting folk, brawny country, pure pop, hard-driving rock & roll and, occasionally, a musician that pulls together each of these sounds together and finds something new.

Look through these lists and you'll find new names mixing with the standard bearers, cult favorites, and veterans vying for space with upstarts, and the one thing that they all have in common is that they made records that demanded attention. Use these lists not as a text but as a guide to find music that you also love.
