I'm a big F1 fan, and our team jerseys are covered in corporate logos. I do tend to gravitate towards the brand that supports my team. So for some people like myself, those ads work.

Because it's your favourite team and you favourite players wear the same jersey.
Because it's a recognizable brand around the country.

Those reasons aren't good enough for me. I want to wear jerseys that look good, and in my opinion that wouldn't be possible with advertisements on them. That's also the reason I don't own any of the current Flames jerseys.

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but some guy imagined all 30 NHL teams as soccer jerseys:

Think that we should have Skittles as a corporate sponsor.

I assume it's got something to do with all the big trades they've made (Gaborik and Carter)? Not entirely sure though.

That's pretty much the reason as to why the Flames or the NHL shouldn't give two craps about your (or other's like yours) opinions on this matter.
The above sounds like an insult, but it's really not, I actually respect you perspective on this and your purchase decision, as well as the criteria you use. But given I'm also going to assume you are a pretty avid Flames fan, the fact that you don't own one of the current jersey's because you find them ugly, means you are a tough nut to crack in regards to jersey's sales.
At this point in time, you aren't really buying their jersey's now anyway, and it sounds like they'd really have to hit a home run in regards to making something that just happens to align with your personal tastes to get you to buy one. So, the fact that adding corporate logo's to a jersey would mean you wouldn't buy one, doesn't really mean much to the NHL and the Flames, you likely weren't buying one anyways, so there's no lost sale there.

Those aren't too bad either.
So between all of these, the future can't be THAT bad. I'd prefer the team logo keep a prominent role in the design, unlike soccer jerseys. But the key to all of these is that they are a part of the jersey, not just slapped on like the Euro leagues.

What you will have, and in a decade only old codgers like me will even remember when it was 'pure' will be 5 and 10 year arena and team sponsorship deals.
The Flames will tie in nicely with a petro chemical deal, chevron or Petro Canada.
Both the teams the league and the businesses will craft deals that will become the team identity over years, we may not like it but they're not stupid, they managed to get everyone to shell out hundreds for third team jerseys, a different design every two years etc, they'll get you to buy this as well.

The difference here is that a soccer teams brand is built around where they are from (Manchester, Barcelona, Liverpool, Munich etc.) rather than the logo, like in NA sports, so adding a large corporate logo to the front was no real hardship for the fans, in fact it has become the way you decifer which team strip it is.

I think you would see jerseys keeping their current designs but with small-ish corporate logos taking up space on the shoulders, lower backs & pant legs of the uniforms. Think how teams look in the Spengler Cup, but scaled back by about 1000%.

I remember reading that the NHL anticipates this will create $4M in ad revenue per team.
Makes me wonder how much they make in jersey sales and how it will affect it. I already have a Flames jersey and a couple Flyers jerseys, I don't need any more. If they sell ones with ads on it, I'll never buy another jersey, which seems to be a common feeling. I'd find it quite amusing if the backlash of jersey sales was a larger loss than what the advertising brought in.
We as fans really only have one option, and that's to vote with our wallets.

I still love the I will never buy again crowd.
You will, you already buy it with a rebook logo. That ones acceptable because it's who manufactures the jersey but rebook pays the league a fee in order to advertise their logo on the jersey. They do this to sell more rebook equipment.
So all of you who say you would never buy a jersey with advertising, full stop, have already failed.
