Can she skate? Is she athletic? If so, she might be a quick study on her own........I suppose the folks at COP give a lot of lessons, so presumably they are very expericied teachers.
I took my daughter (9) to Nakiska for a couple of lessons, and she is now skiing (sort of of) on her own........

I think I'll take for an afternoon to COP one of these days. I'm going to be selfish this weekend and ski some of this white stuff that's making the drive to work a living hell this weekend though

I actually don't know how athletic she is yet. We've only been dating for a few months so it's hard to guage. She can skate but I haven't actually seen her on skates so we shall see...
I'm not too concerned about her picking it up quick, I just don't really know how to teach the basics (do you start adults with Pizza?) so I'd prefer if she learned with someone who could teach her properly. Even if it's only for an hour to get the idea down.
i was looking at youtube vids about learning to ski, and most of them did not really give any great tips and recommeneded lessons - might be best to just go with some kind of lessons and it will give you a chance to ski on your own for an hour or two......i have to guess that you would start out with lots of pizza and then progress...

take her to polar peak in fernie first run, don't tell her about it.
If your still together when you get to the bottom shes a keeper
So todays the day I'm taking the gf out for her first time skiing. We're going to go to COP this evening.
I haven't actually skied at COP since the 5th grade. Any tips? Is there something in between the magic carpet and the chairlift there? Or is the hill easy enough to take an adult first-timer on the chair right away?

Last time I was there the hill was steep and icey. Give her some carpet time, and let her decide if she wants to go to the top. You want her to be full of confidence. Remember this is about her, not your love of sking.
I seen to think you could get off the chair mid-way.
I am going skiing with my daughter at Canyon this thursday can't wait. Then when we get from vacation we are gonna hit the mountains.

One family told me they waited 40 minutes to get on Silver chair.
Hot tip - go in the single lines, and the wait is only 5 minutes. Even if the line looks long it moves fast. They sometimes load 2-4 singles at once, so you still might be able to ride with your friends or family.

Good call.
I just looked and saw that they had 3 different carpets which should help. The awkward thing for me is that I think I'll have to have my skis on to be able to explain to her what she needs to do.
Oh Man, I remember taking this a couple years ago - same run. At the top it had a sign that said "FALLING NOT ALLOWED" I guess they weren't kidding.
Actually, it was quite terrifying as I had never taken the run before and it had suddenly gotten hemmed in with clouds/fog. Couldn't see 10 feet in front. It's very steep and I imagined this kind of tumble as the result of a fall. Wow.
