Sorry, if it's too cold wear a sweater. Far easier for people who get chilly to do that than for people who get hot to strip down to their underwear.

And gloves? How does that even work with trying to type or do anything productive.

I have an office so it's really only a problem when people come in. I put my thermostat at the lowest so the fan is on full, I have a south facing window so during the day the sun really heats it up.

Glad this thread exists, I've wanted to ask a Q for awhile that isn't close to thread worthy..
What's the general consensus on chewing gum? I don't mean on days where you have meetings or working with a partner/team, answering phones, etc.. But just that odd "administrative" day when you pretty much just have the headphones on all day by yourself and are plugging away? But of course there's always a chance a boss or co-worker could come by with a question.
I get how the immediate thought is "NO!", but I'm walking by co-workers on the regular eating at their desks (and types of food that prob shouldn't be eaten while using electronics), sucking on candies/sore throat lozenges, etc. Is gum really that much worse than those things? Just curious what the thought is.

This isn't highschool. We're adults and do whatever we can do to get through the day. Is gum an actual problem anywhere? I've never heard of gum etiquette in the office. I will chew gum and eat whatever I want at my desk at any time.

As long as you're not sticking it under your desk when you're done, what's wrong with chewing gum?

This is my everyday. I chew gum sometimes, and almost always have my headphones in because of my colleague one office over who talks to herself all day. I've never heard of chewing gum at your desk being an issue.

Haha ok, maybe I've been giving it too much thought. I've just never seen it done before and assumed most would see it as a faux pas. Glad I asked, thanks.

The way I look at it is if you are sitting at your desk and someone comes to talk to you (even your boss) its up to them to make sure its convenient. Not you.

Ugh, our office admin will come into my office, stand over my shoulder looking at my computer and chew gum like a horse chewing cud. Just stop chewing for a minute! So gross. Maybe just be "aware" when you are talking to people.

My supervisor will do the same thing (stand over my shoulder) after smoking a few cigarettes outside. He doesn't wash his hands or anything when he comes back in. He's a screen toucher too, so he'll come around to my side of the desk and point to things on my monitor and basically lean over me to do so. With the ashtray breath and the lingering ashtray smell he leaves in my office, it would be a relief if he chewed gum. It's so gross.

can you post this again so I can thank it again? we even have the next-level guy, the screen swiper who not only touches your screen every single time they point at it (as if you're illiterate and can't read the screen yourself) but drags their oily finger across to another point.

A few of the old geophysicists like to use dry erase markers on their screens. For, uhm, reasons. Moment of hilarity when he used permanent. Sorry, you broke it, you don't get a new one.
