They ran more than Italy the both while attacking and while defending. No wonder they ran out of steam first.

Italy is also very much in their comfort zone playing with a one goal lead, you could just see how relaxed they started to be after a while.

No one knows how to park a bus like the Italians. Still, England had their chances and were horrifically wasteful.

Good news for United fans is Baines is likely to be had for cheaper after the tournament.

Baines didn't have his best game ever but he wasn't that bad. He spent the game defending two on ones down Italy's right side. Ashley cole would have struggled trying to contain those two on his own. He also went close with his free kick and put Rooney through for what should have been the equaliser.

You could see how really awful the conditions were with some really horrific crosses and corner kicks. Then you have the old man in Pirlo who made it look so, so easy.

So this new English way is great...lose in regular time instead of PKs.

His marking led directly to the Balotelli goal and his corners were bad. I'd like to see what Shaw can do.

Good effort by England, but in the end, the more intelligent team won. Overall, it was an excellent match. I thought the reffing was superb as well and there wasn't much diving by either squad, which is always nice.

Are the drums the Japanese fans or the Ivory Coast fans? Tough to tell with these two countries.

Sounds a little vuvuzela-esque.

African. I'm tempted to mute the tv. Doesn't bring any atmosphere to the game it's just annoying

Yeah ... there's a little more complexity in the rhythm than I would expect from Japan over an African country

I don't mind this at all. Nothing like the vuvuzelas which were just awful.
