Burke obviously has a better idea on the pulse of this team right now than someone from outside of the organization, so I don't see an issue at all with him saying that a requirement of the new GM will be to accept that Hartley needs to be extended.
The last thing you want is to have someone come onboard and unravel all the good that has happened this season simply because they want to 'bring their own people in'.

That draft show is embarrassing. Nothing like five egomaniacs with losing teams sitting and waiting for hope. Although Burke and McTavish could be good for a few comments...

That is just sad. I understand being happy to get first dibs on picking who's considered the best player in the draft, but making a celebration out of it in a pub, with the cheerleaders and streamers is pretty lame.
I listened; he said something about 'that German kid' being big and skilled. In the context of the conversation, didn't sound like he wasn't a consideration...
Draisaitl's playing style has been compared to that of H. Sedin. I seem to remember some guy named Burke bringing the Sedins to Vancouver.
Seems pretty clear to me that, from Burke's perspective, Hartley earned the right to coach out his contract next year, and any GM candidate that doesn't recognize that isn't much of a candidate.
The new GM, whoever it is will be a puppet. Make no mistake, Burke is running this team.
No respect but I think puppet is a poor and silly choice of words. Brian Burke came into this situation knowing full well what Ken King and company wanted. Burke will be in charge but the GM will have plenty of responsibilities as well. They'll bounce ideas and thoughts off each other.
Burke seems fully committed to the system the Flames want in their managers.

If they want to do a television show of it, why don't they bust out the ping pong balls? The stupid envelope signs don't do a whole lot for transparency...and are less dramatic...
