Totally agree. Hope he can recover from his injury and come back better than ever like Bouma did this year

Any of the future 3rd/4th line guys would do like Hanowski/Reinhart etc.

Just a pick plus a little something, not a big something. I wouldn't trade someone with top 6 potential in a deal for Hayes.

I think it might be possible to do just a pick for player type trade as well. Just depends on what the type of picks would work.

Reinhart has much more value than Hanowski in my opinion. Reinhart is at a PPG in the AHL. I would honestly rather keep Reinhart than use him to acquire Hayes, much less throw in a 2nd on top of that.

Ferland is a bit more of a 'risky prospect', but I would imagine the Flames are seriously very high on Ferland - especially with a GM like Burke. Ferland straight up for Hayes makes me cringe, though I think Chicago doesn't accept that without a 2nd or at least a 3rd pick thrown in.

Hanowski, Agostino, Van Brabant - these guys all have around 3rd line upside at most. Hayes has 3rd line upside IMO. I could see adding a 2nd on top of this as Hayes is a better scorer than 2 of those prospects. I like Hayes, and I think he will become a better player than Hanowski, arguable over Van Brabant (better scorer than Brabant will be I think, but certainly not as tough which is a great attribute for the bottom 6) and about equal with Agostino.

I would think defensive prospects are what Chicago would probably rather have. I am not too familiar with their defensive prospect depth, but they are very deep in the top 9 forwards for depth.

Chicago is in a tough spot cap and contract wise next year. They've already added two contracts for next year (T. Van Remeisdyk and Johns, potentially a third with TT if his contract slides) and they'll add the guys who graduate to the pros.

They might just prefer the 2nd round pick over adding contracts.

Is there a reason why the Schultz loophole was left like this under the new CBA?

Probably because it's such a rare situation that requires so many exact variables to be in place that it's not really worth the effort to change it. Teams still hold a player's rights for four years in that situation, so it's still longer than a kid who goes the major junior route.

Ferland may be one of our better prospects. Conroy said he was close to being recalled when he got injured.

He's also our only powerforward prospect and one of our only RW prospects. Burke loves those types of players. Can't see us trading him at all.

Yes, but in order to get the "better" prospect you have to give to get. You need to be looking at the Flames doing the Erixon trade again for the approximate return. That was a pair of 2nds + a decent depth prospect that would look to be a 3rd/4th liner. I'm only saying to send 1 2nd, + a similar 3rd/4th line guy (not necessary Ferland, just didn't want to type out 10 names that'd be candidates).

If anything they'd probably want a Granlund or Wotherspoon or something like that.

If Hayes had his mind set on Calgary but was traded to say Florida, would he still be able to simply go to Calgary in July?

Something about this situation tells me that Hayes' decision to not sign with Chicago has less to do with not wanting to play for the Hawks and more to do with wanting to play with two of his best friends on the Flames.

August 15th would be the day that he could.

He would probably give them a heads up of acceptable teams though in advance.

I'm not sure I do Reinhart for Hayes straight up.

And a 2nd rounder isn't "just a pick".

This is all getting out of hand. If the guy has an interest in signing here, wait until he's an FA and sign him. We've got his 2 best buds in the system, more money than the panthers, and just as much if not more opportunity for Hayes within our club due to our weak RW depth.

I'll be pissed if Burke does any of the trades being suggested in here.

Fair enough. May I ask how much you've seen of Hayes?

The same over rating was done with Corban Knight last year. We acquired him for a 4th round pick in 2013, and many had him pegged as more valuable than the guys we selected with our 1st the very same year (Poirier and Klimchuk).

Have not watched him play much, but Reinhart is the same age and has 57 points in 62 AHL games.

Hayes looked slow when I saw him play on Thursday.

I'd just wait until August to try and sign Hayes.

Wonder if Burke could offer a 5th or 6th rounder for the rights to talk to Hayes, and a conditional 2nd if he signs.

They're the same age, and Hayes just put up his 1st 1+ppg season in NCAA... Playing along side the best college player of the last decade.

Reinhart was a ppg in a better league this year.

That is where I think this will head. Hayes being a 1st round pick will at least return a late 2nd for them if they don't sign him. I'm not sure many teams would pony much more than that up.

He would become our 2nd best RW prospect behind Poirier, but that's not saying much of anything.
