MIller and Halak are at totally different levels, IMO.
And Ott is a huge piece for the playoffs - including leadership
This trade makes St Louis a force

This trade does not improve Bufflalo's chances of getting McDavid AT ALL

Depends on how many lottery picks they end up with after all the deals are done.

Well they won't get another lottery pick from this deal. St Louis has the same chance of missing the playoffs as Chicago does - probably less as they are deeper

Buffalo is easily the early favourite for last overall next season. They have no goaltending, traded both their captains this year and are likely to trade several of Halak, Stewart and Moulson all before the deadline. Their projected team looks absolutely abysmal for next year. They don't need to improve their chances as they are already the odds on favourite.
What would really help their chances is if the Isles suck again next year too. They'll have two chances at winning the lottery.

You have to think with all his options for a hockey trade (Cammy, Glencross, Hudler, Stajan, Stempniak, Wideman, Giordano, Smid, Jones, Butler, Russell) Burke has to be able to wheel and deal his way to a number of great trades.

It's gonna be a sad deadline day for you, my friend
If we can snag a 1st for Cammy and a 2nd last minute for Stempniak I'll be very happy.

Your view of their values is extremely skewed if you ask me.
Miller is in the same league as Quick and Lundqvist, Halak is nothing close to that. Ott on the other hand is a 2nd liner with the intangibles to make him as valuable as a lower end first liner to many teams.

I'll admit that Miller is the better of the two but different levels may be a bit much. They have similar stats, Halak is 5 years younger, Halak has looked pretty good in the playoffs.
They are both expiring contracts so it all comes down to the playoffs this year. Hard to say how Miller will preform, he hasn't been in the playoffs for awhile.

The fact they have similar stats when Miller played for the god awful Sabres and Halak played for the powerhouse Blues is proof that they are not on the same level.

So if they have similar stats but one goalie plays on one of the best teams in the league and the other plays on the worst team in the league doesn't that mean they are at different levels?

The way their rebuild is going I'll be surprised if they get to 4 years without playoffs. Perfect rebuild thus far

Well it can IF the Blues finish outside the playoffs. That's not likely going to happen, but if they do finish just outside they still can win the lottery and pick first overall.

All they have done is pick up picks for the most part. Until those picks pan out nothing is close to perfect.

True, but they've set themselves up very nicely with shrewd trades, and will probably be dealing Moulson, Stewart and Halak for even more.

So watching the Buffalo game and Murray says theres a conditional pick can turn into a 2014 get if the Blues sign Miller to an extension.
Just was not sure this was covered already.

Murray just said in interview, "Guaranteed 2015 1st and conditional 2014 1st if they resign him"
Buffalo is going to have so many 1sts they won't know what to do with them all.
