Kirsh is right. Many of us tune Rome out.

So true. I loved Rome a few years ago but it is as if he bought his own hype and has become a parody. I don't listen to the radio to hear a "smack off" between "clones".
I'm a big Steinberg fan. He is knowledgeable and opinionated but isn't as abrasive and condescending as Kerr was.

I always turn it at 10. Either to Q or my ipod. Rome is ~50% NCAA. I don't understand America's love for college sports. I don't follow NFL either.
That and he just isn't funny.

What's the impetus for all these changes? And why do they keep getting worse?

The only change of note recently is Leslie being gassed and then promoting a couple guys from within that simply arent ready or good enough to replace him.

You can only hear so much Flames news over the course of a day and this has been an ongoing issue that was masked in the past by better talent. IMO things have slid since Richards went back east. He was an all around sports guy and when he was doing the morning show it focused on more than just the Flames as there was a lot of CFL, NFL, MLB, golf, even boxing. It was a more diverse show. Now it's just all Flames all the time. The Stamps get a bone here and there but really it's been reduced to hearing Flames in the morning, NHL at noon, Flames in the afternoon mixed with Steinberg telling us every day why he's not sold on the Ducks in the playoffs. This is what happens when you overly focus on one sport that doesn't change a lot day to day.

960 should give Jason DeForest a shot at more hosting. I hear him on the weekends and he is a lot better than Nault or Humpries.

Dowboy is doing the afternoon show today. I know many of you don't like his opinions, but he is a pro on the radio. The FAN960 probably wouldn't mind having a lightning rod personality that will get people talking. He has good connections for guests.
Today he plans to smack Oiler Nation . . .

FAN 960 really got hurt by the Kerr move.
I think the morning show is passable. Not my favorite thing but they are decent guys and fine for the level of radio it is.
Kerr and Steinberg are a great afternoon show as Kerr can do the heavy lifting and Pats sports knowledge is much better used as an augment to the show rather than main focus.
I hate Dowbiggen and think he goes to clips from interviews way too much but he does at least have opinions and able to talk about a variety of topics.
He is an upgrade over the full in guys they have had.
I imagine cost us the reason but I think the fan should think about a late night show to give some of these young guys some experience to just understand the pace needed to fill 3 hours on the radio. Way too many pauses, dead air and stumbles from these guys that likely is in part nerves/inexperience.

What a perfect summary of a day in the life of Fan 960!
Kind of off topic, but the Hitmen PBP guy on the Fan seems to be really good, from the limited amount that I've listened to him. Does anybody listen to that broadcast often? He would be a massive upgrade on Rob Kerr's PBP on TV.

Brad Curle is a really good PBP guy outside of his ridiculous "Sweet Victory" call at the end of games.
Super homer Ken Thrower however, not so good.

Could Care Less
|
When I tune to the Fan 960 I want to hear about hockey and the Flames - it's the only topic that I actually care to listen to endless drivel and opinion on (which is all sports radio). To be fair though, I only listen on way to and from work, which is like 30 minutes. I could see if you were listening all day it'd get repetitive quickly.

Rome (get rid of him completely), losing talent and the relentless Spence diamond commercials. The 3 main reasons why I rarely listen to the station anymore.

I tuned in for a bit today, it was Pat and someone going on for 10 minutes about where they were for the Blue Jays world series win, how much they actually liked baseball, other sports they like, like Formula 1. I shut it off. It would have been a boring conversation to even be a part of, let alone broadcast on the radio.
That station is unlistenable at this point. Hope those cost savings were worth it.
