The Flames did get shut out in 5 of 7 games. Points are points.

No way the Flames are buying out Jones, they need his number to hit the cap floor.

I don't think they will, but if they did they could do a regular buyout and have 1/3 of his cap hit

Rumours? The guys were teammates. Warrener still lives in Calgary. Not at all suprising to think Warrener had a legit scoop there. Why do you doubt it? I don't doubt it in the slightest. Sarich wasn't getting played consistently for the first half the year, of course he'd want out. When he was getting played more he was more open to staying.

For 6 years....I hope they expect to be some semblance of competitive before that time expires.

Hmm.. Jones' contract is only for the next three years (this year included). I thought it was 4. Not so bad then. Flames ride this contract out easily, as I think they will only start becoming close to a cap team in that third year (and if only things go very well in the rebuild).
Flames won't use a compliance buyout as they need to hit the floor. Flames won't use a normal buyout as anything past these 3 years will start impacting them when they will probably be a cap team.

Warrener is probably the most honest ex players the flames ever had, there are some that don't say anything when asked and some that say too much but if Rhett says something you can bet it's true.

They'd be better off trying to find someone who will take him if the Flames retained 50% of his salary.
They'd keep $2M in cap hit for the next two years, when they'll need help to hit the floor, rather than taking a $1.33M cap hit for 4 years. It would also be cheaper overall paying half his remaining deal instead of two-thirds of it.
If he does get moved, it probably won't be until the summer.

Yeah, this was when he was getting scratched pretty heavily by Sutter in the first part of the season. It is pretty reasonable to believe a guy like Sarich probably did go to management and say "play me or trade me".
Anyways his minutes go up, he barely gets scratched (if he did at all) in the last half of the season and ended up playing pretty well for us by the end of 2012. Why wouldn't he sign an extension with the Flames.
Relationships can be repaired, especially if circumstances change.

Why do I doubt it? Maybe because of the simple fact that Sarich re-signed with the Flames a few months later.
So yes, it was a rumor and one that was pretty clearly wrong considering what transpired.

Except Hartley wasn't apart of the organization when that rumour came out.

At most, we buyout Shane, which saves us considerable money compared to buying out Tanguay.
Buying out Tanguay was in no way better than trading him for assets. Just because you don't like the return doesn't mean it's not better than nothing. We are so far from the cap that having Jones eat salary is really insignificant.
Jones and O'Brien > Money spent on a player playing for someone else.
Arguing different is hilarious.

I still think, though, that if Tanguay was put on waivers, he would get picked up. I agree his value is junk after he tanked the rest of the season last year, but he's not total junk and I think this cancer thing is a bit overplayed. Or even re-entry waivers for half price (aka. SOB's bill?)
As for Sarich, many are re-writing history here too. I've heard slow, I've heard crappy puck moving skills, but attitude problem? I think some people are just making up crap to marginalize the trade. The guy was a warrior and a leader, he was no cancer.
Either way, the source of the problem was both players should never have been resigned - Tanguay, 5 years after his history? And Sarich, 2 years for a aging bottum pairing dman? At the end of the day, its a few million dollars of mistakes on a laundry list of many more mistakes the summarizes the last few years and hopefully Burke can clean up this mess.

Agree to disagree then. Sarich was getting scratched consistently early in the year in a contract year. Pretty clear he'd want out.

More on what the Flames did on their Olympic break:

And Brian McGrattan? Well, he stopped by his favourite tattoo parlour and got busy on another sleeve of inkwork.
“I’m putting a phoenix on there,” said McGrattan, lifting his bandaged right arm. “It’s a symbol for new beginnings. Starting a new life about five years ago, being sober and all that stuff, it’s a symbol about that. A lot of my tattoos have meanings towards sobriety. So I thought that would be a cool addition.”
The McGrattans also found time to go holidaying in Maui with the Stajans.
Did the Flames enforcer come close to convincing Matt Stajan to get inked up?
“I’m trying to get him to put ‘two per cent’ on his left pec for a bag of milk,” said McGrattan, cackling, taking a shot at Stajan’s physique.

Sure he mentions all his cool tattoos, but doesn't tell the Herald about his other new one? Matching with his wife, both his dogs names on their feet
