Dang. I *really* liked Colbert Report. Colbert has been getting on the nerves of conservatives far more than Jon Stewart.... Colbert just has that ability to adgitate and be controversial more than Stewart. CBS will want him to be apolitical on Late Show. I'll miss his current show and am no more likely to watch the Late Show.
The Colbert Report is way past it's freshness date, so it's a good change imo. The Daily Show was able to stay relevant because Jon Stewart doesn't have a schtick to stick to. The fake Bill O'Reilly thing went on way too long.

And I think The Colbert Report is better than its ever been. Different strokes and all that jazz.
I'm really torn on this. It will great for him to get an even bigger spotlight, and I actually might watch that show now. However, his work on The Colbert Report, and The Colbert Report itself, will be hugely missed.

Yeah not a fan of losing the Colbert Report. Its hilarious and while it technically takes a less direct approach to the political comedy than Stewart (in the way that it is pure satire whereas Stewart goes right for it), its a much louder and in-your-face approach which I think is needed as well.
Is anyone taking over the mantle for Colbert? It probably would have been a better fit for Seth Meyers to end up there instead of Late Night. Also wouldn't mind seeing Asif Mandvi (sp?) have his own show. He does the satire thing very well and is hilarious.

Larry Wilmore will be replacing Colbert on the new "Report" in January.
The new show will be called The Minority Report, and promises to be, "a comedic look at news, current events and pop culture from unique perspectives not typically on display in late night television."
It sounds like this will take a very different approach from the Colbert Report, which is likely a good idea because I don't think they could really bring in someone else to do that same type of character.

Larry Wilmore is brutal. Most the bits I've seen him do have been about his blackness etc. Which would be fine except he's just not that funny. I'm all for mixing up the Late Night TV scene with something other then 30-45 year old white guys but Wilmore brings a slighter sharper edge then Wayne Brady.
