All young enough to be solid pieces here for years to come if they keep up their play.
Add in Corban Knight, and the 4th/5th round picks that have been dealt off this offseason have all been homeruns for the value that we sent the other way.

I thought the effort on the 5 on 3 was outstanding. It was tough to have the goal go in, but Chicago is a really talented team. To at least get through the first penalty was well done, after taking two terrible (Flames fault, not the refs) penalties. I liked how Hartley kept putting Backlund out as the forward. It reaffirmed to me the healthy scratch was not a punishment, but it was a teaching tool. I truly believe Hartley is the right coach for this group. The team has to have three scratches a night. It's okay to sit one game if the other players on the team are playing better than you.

Great back pressure by all the forwards, that was a big part of slowing the Hawks attack down. Didn't think the Hawks had a lot of really grade A chances.
Brodie is awesome, and continuing to get better. I keep thinking of Dan Boyle with him.....a little undersized, but great skater, high hockey IQ, and some grit to his game.
I was pretty unimpressed with the Kris Russell trade, but he is making me believe. I don't notice him for being too small, and I don't notice him as a liability defensively...both good things. I do notice him for his skating and passing.

“We were open to everything,” Hartley said. “I kind of asked him, ‘When are you ready?’ I know of Reto because of my Swiss connections and this guy was probably the biggest free agent in the Swiss league. He didn’t even sign any contracts over there — his mindset was to play in the NHL. He came here for a reason. That’s why he’s in tonight’s game. I understand the challenge. But here’s a guy who played in world championships. He wants to play.”

“I just want to make clear — it’s not a one game shot,” Hartley said. “I told him this when I sat with him yesterday. I told him, ‘I’m not putting all my chips on the table right now.’ He’s going to get many starts.”
How many times in the past would a goalie come in, play great and lose because the old Flames did not seem to care? Tonight they really wanted the win for Reto and imposed their will on the cup champs. The Hawks love beating the Flames they wanted to win again tonight.
Hopefully in a year or two, Flames will dump the Hawks in the playoffs like they did to the Flames in 2009. I would love that.
