Sieloff: “It kind of fuels your fire, seeing you’re already under their skin,” said the 19-year-old defenceman, a second-round pick in 2012. “He did score on that play, but at the end, you know you’re under his skin. It comes pretty natural. Sometimes you might hit a guy and they give you a different look, but I’m here to play my game. I’m not here to change that — or let a guy change that. I’m going to play the way I play. That’s why I’m here.”

I think the kids who make the team should be the ones who earn a spot in camp. Doesn't matter if its Monahan, Knight, Reinhart, etc. it should totally be dependent on how they play and not on their ELC or what it might do to them psychologically... We want tough-minded players who respond the right way to getting sent down. If it was up to me, I would want Reinhart and knight tools the team and have Monahan play another year of junior so he could get the experience of the world juniors and there would be another centre ice position available next year with stajan probably gone.

I would really like to see Ramage or Sieloff make the team, I think our D-core is ready for some heavy competition. I predict one of the young guys pushes Butler out and we end up flipping him for a pick. I also predict Granlund will really push and hopefully that pushes Baertschi more as I think Sven really needs to build more confidence. Im hoping Backlund stays healthy as he is one guy who I see as doing all the right things to be successful just needs more time healthy to really get established.

Goal is where the fun really is, I think Ramo may have the inside track but I really haven't seen enough of anyone to know for sure.

Any context on this comment? I would like to know what the question was or how this came up. Seems like a strange comment from a guy that wants to be a leader on and off the ice?

Considering Sven was our top prospect up until the moment Monahan was drafted the question probably had something to do with Sven's opinion of how Monahan is handling that pressure of having all our hopes and dreams resting on his shoulders.

Luckily Monahan has guys like Sven to share the spotlight with.

Paul Byron... I totally forgot about him. I remember a few years ago, he was a important part of the future and Feaster was going to make room for him to get him back to the NHL after he was sent back to the minors after his first Flames stint. Got to wonder if he's still in the plans?

About our younger centres.
I hope Byron sued the surgeon(s) that did the first two operations, for gross incompetence.

Quote:
The speedy 24-year-old centreman, playing on a line with Jarome Iginla and Curtis Glencross, absorbs a slash and breaks his left hand — on his fourth shift in.
Byron underwent surgery to repair it and had pins put in — only to find out two weeks later that they weren’t put in properly and had to redo the entire procedure.
But wait, it gets better.
“And while that happened, they put one of the pins through a tendon,”

Peplinski beats McCrimmon 2-0. Ortio and Berra with the shutout, Ramo with the loss. Goals scored by Hudler and McGrattan.

Hmm...Ortio has yet to give up a goal. How crazy would it be for him to be the #1 starter out of camp? (not likely I know)

On another website a poster said that Berra played the whole game.

He also said that Granlund was replaced at center by Galliardi, who looked better at center than Granlund. Grandlund apparently did not win one face off.

Haha I'm starting to regret taking an OT shift from work. I hope I can make it down 1 day. First preseason games are tomorrow. If Ortio continues his solid showing he may very well force an extended look in camp.

The thing that blew me away was "In July, he was leanest rookie at the Flames’ development camp, with only seven per cent body fat."

Seriously. At 248 lbs he had the lowest body fat % of rookies?!? Guy is a brick ****house. Who is going to want to go down his side of the ice? Hope he can play mean.

Shocked, and happy.
Kanzig is still pretty raw, IMO. He's probably still 2-3 years away, but he has a ton of promise. Mobile d-men with that kind of frame are rare...

This season the flames are destined to finish last in the standings. The team is starting the season with 2 nhl level centers, a big question mark in net and a roster full of rookies. This has probably been the weakest roster the team has had since I became a fan.

Hopefully the plan is to get as many players a cup of coffee so they can learn what they need to work on to be ready in the next season or two. It will be a pleasant chance to watch new players try to compete rather than a bunch of old veterans going through the motions.

Apparently its 5-1 White right now.

Ferland, Cammalleri, Monahan with 2, and David Jones with the goals for White. Jooris from Glencross for the other team.

Ramo outplaying MacDonald who got pulled for Brossoit.

All second hand info from my brother who's there. Ferland and Mono with beauties.

For a guy like Backlund I would be a lot more interested in comparing him to his previous results than to the results of other players. If his personal fitness is continuing the improve then he is going to be a better player and that is all I really need to hear about him.

On the other hand if he shows up looking like a blond burgered out Byfuglien then that would be pretty telling too.

Definitely love what is being said about Kanzig... honestly, if he is 250 and only 7% body fat then there really isn't much more physical developing that the guy needs to do to become "NHL ready". At this point it would just be a matter of adding maturity and experience to improve his game and allow him to make an impact in the NHL with that monster frame.

I'm hoping the D Jones goal was him driving hard to the net. Flames need him to get back to the way he played before the injury.
