The main difference is that after Backlund and Brodie, we do not have a true gauge at what these guys will become in the NHL yet. The Hawks had 34 players that either developed into NHLers or were higher picks 3rd+ in the years leading up to them becoming a cup winner the first time around. We have 12 guys on that list above, plus a bust 1st rounder (Nemisz), 2nd rounder (Wahl), 3/4 3rd rounders (Leach, Negrin, Howse, and maybe Bouma). We still have to accumulate a lot more prospects in order to get the depth necessary to develop into a contender.
