One part of me hopes that Monahan develops a more physical game, the other part of me is fine with his disciplined styled of play because his size and reach are perfect for his position. I am also hoping his skating improves. But I'm thrilled to have him at #6. I thought Lindholm would go before him (and he did), but we'll see which one has the better NHL career...

Also wouldn't be surprised to see Monahan as the future captain of the Flames.

I like this pick but preferred Lindholm. From the look on feaster's face after Carolina picked him, he did too.
Oh well.

I agree on Lindholm, but have to thank the Oil for getting one more win at the end of the season to ensure we got #6 and a decent center

If say, we had taken Nichuskin do you guys think Edm would have taken Monahan over Nurse? There was a ton of hype from guys up there. Or was MacT actually going to use his brain, regardless?

Makes it all the better if we actually did rob the Oil of their preference.

Well, I was firmly in the Lindholm camp but the more I hear about Monahan, the more excited I get. Seems like the guy has all the tools and great character to boot.

I posted this a while back on the draft discussion thread but thought I would bring it up again:

You can see from this plot how an elite two-way player like Sean Monahan sees both the opponent's top line and their best defensemen:

I'd love to hear, from someone familiar with the OHL, how Monahan compares to Seguin in his draft year...or Alex Galchenyuk...even Matt Duchene.

I assume he ranks higher than players like Ryan Strome and Ryan Johansen from their draft years.

Monahan had slightly lower GPG, but higher PPG than Duchene. Some comparables below.

What is the criteria of this list?

Is it just a random list for comparisons sake?

It features comparable players who played their draft year in the CHL, had a goals per game rate between 0.49 and 0.60, a points per game rate between 1.24 and 1.52 (90% to 110% of Monahan's production), and was selected somewhere between 2nd and 12th overall.

Got it from an Oilers blog site, pre-draft.

*Ahem*... before anyone calls you out on the numbers being wrong, they're normalized to a constant level of goals/game.

Can you describe the look on Feaster's face?
Did TSN even pan to Feaster after Lindholm was selected?

I was ecstatic when the Flames picked Monahan. There was several high fives and going around when the pick was finally made and Monahan was called.
Once Lindholm was selected by Carolina, Monahan was finally becoming a reality.

All I could find was this video of Feaster after the Lindhom selection (starts around the 3:20 mark)

They only show Feaster like 3 mins after the Lindhom selection and he seems to be keeping a stoic face because he knows the camera is on him

Lindholm's dad was quoted "Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs"

I don't even know how somebody could read anything one way or the other out of that. I could just as easily say Weisbrod looked to be smiling in that clip.
