I'd rather not trade him if the return is a worse contract for the same duration.
We got a declining player with a worse contract. You can bookmark this thread. I am calling it now. By this time next year, Tanguay is going to be the better asset than Jones. In fact, I think the same will be true 2016 when both deals are up.
He had one bad year, that's hardly declining.
And even when he has trouble scoring Jones brings penalty killing size and a physical game to the table.
What does Tanguay bring when he's not scoring. Oh right nothing.

Off topic, but I found it interesting that both players were from that deep 2003 draft, both 8th and 9th round picks. I hope the Flames can bag a couple decent late round picks like these on sunday.
Like many have said not really much reason to hate it and not really much reason to think it is any good.
A pretty meh trade moving out some older, better players and bringing in some younger tougher players.
Jones is a good fit for a rebuilding team as his size and ability to go to the "hard areas" will be nice on a team likely with a lot of young guys who need help in that area. But the 27 goal season sure looks like a fluke and expecting him to be a legit top 6 guy is probably a stretch.
SOB is worse than Sarich but younger and this team has bigger issues than whether SOB or Sarich is the 6th d-man on the team. Would be nice to see SOB gone before the season as he is a pylon out there but if not hopefully he can at least get in some scraps to provide something to the team.

Yup. I distinctly remember a thread where people wanted Tanguay as one of the compliance buy outs. Yes, he was that bad at the end of the season. People just have short term memory.
The problem is there are lots of tough scrubs out there that can babysit Sven and Mikael. We didn't have to give up one of our only assets to get that covered.
It's not like we got some tough power forward who'll put up points while holding down the fort. We might as well have busted Oliwa out of jail.
Man that cap geek is quick.. They're on the ball on that website.
Yeah, I was checking their Flames depth chart before I saw the trade, and I was confused why I had never heard of this David Jones guy, and why he was the highest paid RW on the team.
The Flames needed a real SOB on the blueline, so that's taken care of.
Tanguay needed and wanted to go, so I'm not sad to see him shipped out. Jones is a RW, which is a position of need, and he has put up points in the past.

How was everyone not completely sick of seeing the forwards (Tanguay especially) get pushed around the last couple years? Big forwards are what we need, and more of them. I'd welcome the same type of deal for Cammelleri (albeit a slightly larger return)

This is a very Darryl Sutter esque-trade... And not panicky end of the line Sutter. I'm happy with it. A couple tough #######s. I always hate playing both these players. Welcome to the Flames, d-bags.
