Wow I'm an idiot. I have a utility trailer just sitting in my garage holding my quad. Does anyone on CP need it? It might take me a day to dig it out but if anyone could use it let me know and I will get it out and the quad off of it.

Looks like the bees are gone. I cut out the drywall over their area and found the remnants of a small nest, with no activity.

Also, someone left their flashlight here... Maybe frinkprof or cebc?

Not surprised, given the nature of the calls I've been dealing with from some of the 'nicer' neighborhoods hit by the flood. If you've seen the CPS "homeless" tweet...that's one of the nicer ones...

I posted this in the big thread but apparently into a big Harper discussion so I'll throw it here too.

Just a question here, I want to give some volunteering manpower help but won't be able to until Monday next week. I'm guessing there will still be people in need at that point?

Coming down Friday night from Sherwood Park with my son to help out over the weekend. Will be staying at one of that clutch of hotels that service the airport around Barlow & McKnight. Given the issues with Deerfoot and that Memorial is apparently still closed what would be the best route into the areas that need help? Also, are there any CPer's that still need a hand? Thanks.

If there's anyone by bow crescent today with a truck, come by 6052. We have a lot of debris. Appreciate the help!

Question to those who have done it already: anything else that will be useful in there? Something you wish you had with you when you're doing it?

(P.S. I don't have a generator)
The house I was at yesterday had a dozen big plastic bins which were invaluable for carting crap out of the basement to the garbage pile

Where I was in Elbow park there was lots of activity and it was just as matter of asking until someone needed help. But these were all people who were already doing stuff and just needed more bodies. What I worry about are people who don't know how to ask for help or aren't actively cleaning up - maybe the elderly etc. what's the best way to reach them?

My wife an I are heading out tomorrow afternoon and since we both grew up around Bowness figured that is where we would go. I drive a truck and would be happy to haul a few loads to the dump, do you still need help tomorrow? If so PM me your info and I will touch base as we are on route.

My son and I just got back home. We were in Roxboro since early morning loading dumpsters and breaking off wet studs from people's basements. Devastating scenes everywhere. Food in trays from flooded freezers is starting to rot and smell really bad. Wet drywall crumbling over the grass. Wedding albums... Pieces of wet carpet and underlay are really tough to handle - heavy, leaking all over. When cutting them out, it is better to cut them in smaller pieces. Headlamps are really useful in dark basements.

Found a 5" thick album of hockey cards outside in a pile; some cards dating as far back as 50's. Could have been worth a fortune, probably. Was badly damaged from the outside but the cards inside were OK. We left it on the porch, as homeowners weren't even home.

Lots of volunteers on the streets knocking on the doors and asking people if they need help. But there is still tons of work for everyone that wants to get involved as people get tired pretty quickly. If anyone wishes to get involved, just stop by the volunteer station near the Jewish Cemetery in Erlton and they'll tell you where people are needed the most. They do have some useful stuff over there: gloves, T-shirts, garbage bags, water and even small flashlights.

Can't feel my back and fingers. I think I deserved a beer now.

People are parking on the median of Mission Road all the way down to 4th Street. That's the closest to the affected areas. We parked near the volunteer station in Erlton and deeply regretted it on the way back, as it's all uphill...

We did the same. My wife walked all they way back in barefeet because of blisters from new rubber boots. Everyone should definitly try to park on Mission Rd centre median or the space between the sidewalk and th road if you're heading to that area.

Just got home from helping in Sunnyside. Flames in 07, don't know if I spoke to you at all (I was the guy in the black IHW shirt), but thanks for the heads-up. Your neighbours are good people. Glad to help them.

I'm also feeling a lot of pride in being a Calgarian today. Lots of people helping in all kinds of ways.

I'm heading out now. Not sure exactly where I'm going yet. Sunnyside is closest to me, so I'll probably go there?

Hey beanz thanks for the offer. Apparently we were able to get a ton of help to haul that stuff away. We're good now thanks so much for offering

Are there any other Crisis Cafes out there that I can base out of, or is Sunnyside just the awesomest community in Calgary?
