Haha, yea I agree.. When Geno gets going though he's just as good as Sid (he's just not always "going"). He looked good last night though, but I think we may be hearing about Geno needing surgery on that shoulder after the season... He just can't shoot right now

Lines this morning (Sid has been on 5th line every practice until now)
Kunitz - Sid - Dupuis
Bennett - Geno - Iggy
Morrow - Sutter - Cooke
Glass - Jokinen - Adams
|
I'd think Neal will just slot in for Bennett, as that would reunite the top 2 lines the Pens were rolling for the 5 minutes that Iginla was a Penguin before Crosby got injured.

I don't think it was rigged, but I wouldn't be all that shocked if it turned out it was. Crosby to the Pens worked out very well for the league.

If you really want to get upset about that draft, how about the fact that we selected, in order:
Matt Pelech
Gord Baldwin
Dan Ryder
J. D. Watt
Kevin Lalande
Matt Keetley
Brett Sutter
Mike Tweten
Total combined number of NHL games played: 40*
Total number of players still in the Flames' system: 0
Total number of players whom were at least converted into other assets: 0**
* 34 of those games are from Darryl Sutter's son, Brett, of which only 18 were with the Flames
** Technically, we traded Ian White and Brett Sutter to Carolina in exchange for Anton Babchuk and Tom Kostopoulos; however, it can be argued that Ian White was the real focal point of that trade. Brett Sutter had been arrested a few days earlier for punching out a cab driver, and most believe Darryl packaged him in the deal so that Brett's older cousin, Brandon, could keep an eye on him in Carolina.

Yea, and they kept Iggy - Geno - Neal together and it really didn't work (Iggy looked really misplaced on left).
They then changed to:
Dupuis Jokinen Iggy
Kunitz Geno Neal
which looked really good, so I was assuming Crosby would just slide in Jokinen's place...

I didn't think Iggy looked that great playing with Malkin, I would rather see him stick on a line with Jokinen.. but I guess with Crosby back all the centers bump down a notch.

Jokinen's going to the 4th line as Sutter has been a great 2 way forward all year, and that Morrow-Sutter-Cooke line has been a thing of beauty. I bet we'll see Crosby / Malkin occasionally double shift on 4th with Jokinen.
I think some of Iggy's problems may have been being on the left side (he didn't really complain but when pressed he admitted it was "quite an adjustment").
I guess we'll find out

That is some decent center depth, can't believe Carolina was so desperate to just give Jokinen away.

Yea, I'm really excited for Bennett too. He's been fantastic all year and finally breaking through DB's extreme hate for rookies

I don't think it's an extreme hate for rookies, but rather the team has so much depth, that it's tough to fit players in. Look at that top 6, how is a rookie supposed to compete in that?

Not the top 6 now, but it took him until game 47 to not scratch Bennett for one of the worst hockey players in the NHL, Tyler Kennedy. He's STILL playing engo over Despres. Its a common joke in pgh about how reluctant he is against playing rookies. I guess I can see him not wanting to risk rookie mistakes with such a talented team, but sometimes it goes overboard. O well, all in all he's been a great coach

Impacts: Jarome Iginla fired a slap shot that nailed Nabokov in the helmet in the first game. "It's probably done," he said of the equipment. "I don't want to let Iggy know, though, he got a good shot." (I think this was from Fantasysp.com)
Anyone seen a pic of the helmet? Nabokov showed reporters, but I couldn't find a pic of it.
