I would actually prefer whoever we pick with our first rounder (and Pittsburgh's first rounder as well) not play for the Flames next year.

If the guy we select with our pick (1-3?) is ready then you play him.

It's a tough one. I don't think there's anything MacKinnon, Jones or Drouin can gain from playing in the CHL any further and they're too young for the AHL. Barkov and Lindholm, you definitely leave them in their respective leagues for a year or two.

If the team stands pat at the deadline I'd still like to see Bouw moved at the draft for picks and prospects, try and package Pitts pick to move up. This is a very very important draft for us.

Military service is 6 months and it's also totally different for top athletes. Normally you don't have any freedom but athletes get a lot.
We don't know how much of the offseason Barkov will lose because of his unfortunate injury. He could miss a lot of crucial training time. Otherwise you could even bring him over to NA right away and worry about military service later. Given his development, there's absolutely no reason for him to stay in Finland for more than a year in any case.

With our luck, we will draft Barkov and then Finland will decide to take back Karelia thereby forcing Barkov into a longer military service.

I think with the team we have right now we draft 5th-6th.
Depending on what we do by April 3rd we could easily move into a 1-4 position.
Do me proud Feaster

Nikita filtov was a sure thing as far as Russians go, and he flaked out as well. You absolutely do not spend the biggest pick in this organizations history on a Russian who is not guaranteed to be here.

Posters from Finland on HF say that Barkov can finish his military service between the draft and the start of the NHL season (a 6-8 week type of thing).
Likely means he misses summer camp, however.

That would be complicated, what with Barkov being of Russian heritage and a dual citizen.

I agree but future wise it would be nice is we could stalk up with 2 or 3 high caliber Centers. That said, my preference would still be Drouin he can be converted back to Center if need be..

I just thought this might be interesting to revisit now that it is two years later, even though it seems like Feaster isn't really the Flames drafting guy. Let's hope Weisbrod is a better prognosticator than his boss:

I'm not sure I would even want Feaster choosing the scouting staff, who was his head scout in Tampa anyway? Whoever it was, they should stay home. His only notable pick in six years (not counting Mr. Stamkos) was Paul Ranger, a late-round late-bloomer long-shot.

We have organizational needs all through the roster, we better draft BPA regardless of position.

As it sits now in the upcoming 2013 draft we pick:
3rd overall
15th overall (St Louis)
30th overall (Pens)
- -
That's as the standings sit now.
Not too bad. Would still like to see us pick 2nd/3rd with our own pick and another in the 6-8 range.

Keep those firsts coming, Jay! Cammy, Glencross, Gio and Tanguay could all fetch a first, forget the junk prospects.

Now the question becomes......how far up in the draft can we get by trading the Stl and Pitt first rounders?

Epic Rebuild in the course of one season with those two added!
Would one pick around 3rd and another 5-8th.
Find a way!

I wonder if nishkunin would fall to 15 or 16 if the blues just get in. That would bethe perfect spot to take the homerun shot. Even use the 2nd we get from trading kipper to move up to 12 to take him.
Jones and Niskunin. Not a bad rebuild. Now trade cammy for one more first.
