I kind of wish Feaster wouldn't talk so much and just leave the door open (rather then close doors to a "blow it up") ... just in case he changes his mind. There really is no point in him saying he's not going to blow it up... got to wonder what he thinks is the benefit of going public like this?

The Flames BIG move was sending Sven to the AHL. I don't expect the ownership and management group to do anything regarding trades but twiddle their thumbs and go out for power lunches.

Lets trade Babchuk, Glencross, and a 4th rounder to the Islanders for Nino Niederreiter.
C'mon Feaster, make it happen.

Glencross > Niederreiter.
Glencross for Niederreiter + pick is closer value.

Their "intellectual honesty" might just be a vicious cycle of management and ownership justifying answers to their own questions. There is no "intellectual honesty" to the fan's opinions and won't be until there aren't people in the stands. Even then they will still call all the shots, not like they would poll the fans to see what they should do.

Well I think by "blow it up" Feaster may imagine dealing all veterans. A complete and total rebuild. Burn it to the ground. I don't see us dealing all veterans.
Certainly without going against what he said he could trade a couple veterans at the deadline and not be "blowing it up". A partial rebuild. A "marshalling of assets" as he described last year but failed to execute.
Let's hope they are intellectually honest enough to consider that.

I don't even need them to "blow it up". I'll be happy if we're at least sellers at the deadline. Baby steps.....

lol, Marshaling of Assets. I forgot about that absurd Feasterism.
He Marshalled a two year deal out of an AHL energy player.

I'm pretty sure the Rock Solid Plan was to talk about how they had a Rock Solid Plan.

Rock Solid Plan: Start the season with 8 defensemen and 2 centres and 1 goalie.
Edit: Recoup second round pick at draft.

We really need to get another 1st. Trams like Anaheim and Philly got it right in 03 with 2 first picks.
Have a strong draft and we are expediting our rebuild.

100% agree and I think if this team was run properly, we would have the chance to have multiple first rounders. The fact that we are as bad as we are and Feaster wanted to trade our first rounder just goes to show how bad the team is run.

It's a little different when the player you're getting back is a 22-year old centre who plays a Selke-esque two-way game.

The 2003 draft was the year to do it because it was a very deep draft. There were players available late in the 1st round that would be top 10 picks in most years.
By all accounts that I have read, the 2013 draft is the opposite. Decent depth in the top 5 and maybe top 10, but after that, a whole lot of average. It's not really a good year to go all in. Teams in the top 10 are not going to want to trade down easily either.
If this is the draft that the Flames finally decide to go for the rebuild, their timing stinks.

The Flames need to do something. Not sure blow it up necessary but have to be sellers and get some prospects and picks.
The win now mode has equaled last place in the conference. The fans would understand if this meant trading Iginla and a few other veteran pieces for picks and prospects. There will be more outcry not making any big changes. It's a short season so write off this season and build out for next season and beyond.
Niewendyk gave us Iginla. Fleury gave us Regehr. Not expecting a trading Iginla to turn out as well but a prospect and pick would be a good start.

Up until this year everyone was touting this season as the next 2003 for depth in a draft...now it seems that people are changing their tune and saying the depth has fallen off.
Personally I hope that means teams will be a little more open to trading their firsts and the Flames can pick up some late picks.
If prior to 2003 everybody knew what the 2003 draft would end up being not a single first round pick would have been moved.
