While I do agree that the latest round of protests are pretty ridiculous (as were a lot of the last ones, but hey, they worked for the most part), I am happy to see the PQ get their just desserts. They made it the central issue of their victory and then they try and go back on it, even if it was just 70 bucks, KNOWING just how militant these protests were. That's about as dumb a political maneuver can get. And there's nothing I like seeing more than these separatist clowns get egg on their faces. Maybe if they spent more time worrying about the actual problems of the province instead of language police and strengthening the separatist movement they could put together a decent party.
It does just go to show you though, that the average Quebecer doesn't care nearly as much about separation as they used to. They just like to recycle their governments and put in the one that they feel serves their interests best. I said that when the the PQ came back to power. Unfortunately that often means a BQ government federally because they use their threats to try and get stuff for the province. Though last election shows that even that could be weakening there. Maybe the young are seeing themselves more and more as part of Canada?
I think as the country ages, and especially as Quebec becomes more multicultural as the rest of Canada is, it will be less and less an issue. The separatists will go the way of the Republicans in the states. The party for the (french) old and white. Less and less do they represent the 'average' Quebecer.
