Never been a fan of Stajan, but he's starting to win me over. I still do not believe he should be typecast as a first line centre, but I do think he's starting to grow into an excellent third line centre (on a good team).

He actually reminds me of Dan Cleary a little bit. Cleary was a player that came into the NHL with top six expectations, floundered with those expectations, but flourished as a 3rd line player in Detroit.

Looking back on it, I'm starting to wonder if that's been the problem with Stajan all along. Maybe he's simply struggled with his identity on this team? It looks to me as though he is starting to find it...good on him.

I wouldn't want them to get too high either. That said I would think the players to a man would admit there was luck involved in scoring those late goals and it's not a position they want to be in on a regular basis. A good hockey player is never satisfied with his game and is always looking for ways to improve.

Most of these guys are just over paid I think but I would probably take them all back. I think Stajan making 1.5 mill, Iggy at 4.5-5, Cammy at 4 and Bouw at 4 I would keep them all. Sellane got 5.25 for 2 yrs on his first 35 plus contract I think Iggy should take a little less than that imo.

What's embarrassing is people be consider less of a fan because they don't think everything is awesome with a team that is playing poorly, out of the play-offs and has a ton of things wrong with it.
People complain about posters "being negative" or "being a certain crowd" when they post and then post garbage like this when they don't.

Who exactly is saying "suck it haters" or "this team is awesome"? A lot of reasonable level headed fans posting their thoughts on the game. Something we do after every game. You can post after a win and still criticize team for their mistakes. The Flames made numerous mistakes tonight and I still think we are way too inconsistent defensively to make the playoffs. But yes everyone is thinking the Flames are awesome!! But you keep posting after losses and never after wins and blame it on posters who think this team is awesome. Truth is you just love the losses so you can be right and gloat about it.

The thing is though, the Flames are below the cap...regardless. If paying those guys above less meant that they could sign a first line centre or another defence man..great. However, there's only so much room on the 23 man roster. Signing the guys you mentioned above leaves less room on the roster anyway and I'm not so sure that they'd attract the high end UFAs.

The real problem isn't that the Flames "overpaid" those players. Its that they haven't drafted any high end talent in recent years that have made an impact to the roster yet.

...just my opinion.

Two pretty decent wins for MacDonald, really wish he would get a new mask though, it's like the 30 year old at the gym wearing his high school basketball jersey.

I'm sure MacDonald has a new mask on its way, its only been 2 weeks since he was picked up and with the goalie carousal we've had - I don't blame him for playing the waiting game before pulling the trigger on a new mask.

Stajan at 1.5 would be an absolute steal. $2.5M is probably fair if he keeps this up.

The 9th post in the thread says eat it haters. Sorry got the wording wrong. Plus after Psytic posted his opinions he was asked why he bothered watching the game.

I don't post all that often after losses and would love to see where I am gloating about anything.

These posts that go after the posters, especially when making stuff up that isn't said, are what I was talking about earlier.

Gotta give Stajan credit, he's really been stepping up for the team. Really playing hard and seems to have gained confidence lately. Hopefully he keeps it up.

Didn't watch the game tonight, nice to see they won, but I can't help but think I've seen this story before. They are positioning themselves for another 9th place finish. I hope I'm wrong.

I agree but I still think that having guys on contracts that is equal to their performance makes more sense and makes them more attractive as trade bait to other teams at the same time. I think over paying is part of the equation of the Flames problem (not the sole reason). Having overpaid players with nmc ties your hands for making moves. Personally I would look at moving Iggy at the deadline (maybe re-signing after the season) and go from there. I am not in the Blow the whole team up camp.

Really good weekend of wins.

The way tonight ended should give the team a lot of confidence.

Went to the game, it was fun. Nice to see Iggy get those no matter how weird / ugly they were. Crowd was quite loud in the final moments there... seriously it was actually really nice to hear, and right before the drama you could have heard a pin drop. It was nuts.

I am hoping for more out of Baertschi, but, he's never really with great linemates. I wish they'd play him with Tanguay... I bet they'd play unreal together.

I think Hartley is giving Stajan more of an opportunity than Sutter ever did. He oozes with confidence and for the first time since coming from TO seems to have refound his love for the game.
