the goals on the third period are the ones that's well suited for the Flames in order to win some games. Those are hard working goals especially the Stajan goal. That wouldn't happen if Glencross didn't go all out and Stajan not going to the net. Horak's and Begin's goal are good too because they went to the net.

I like that Hartley put the Iggy-Tangs-Cammy line, then used the Czech line, kept the Glencross-Stajan-Stemp line and most especially put Comeau back where he belongs, the 4th line or bench. At least with the 4th line, nobody expect him to score.

The one thing I like about this team is the fact that they can roll a top 9 that can provide balanced scoring... been a long time since we've seen that. That said, they really need to figure out what to do up the middle. Obviously the Backlund injury has come into play but icing 2 wingers as centres just isn't sustainable.

That said, I like the fact that this team has shown a little bit of resiliency this year. This win reminded me of that win we got in Dallas two years ago (Tanguay got the late goal to tie it up) that set us up on a run. Real character win that set us up on a run... hopefully we see the same this year

(Also, I'm not sure what Hartley has done with Bouw and Stajan but color me impressed with that at least)

It was a team effort. It just makes it easier for the goaltender when they can see most of the shots. They also control the rebounds. I hope they will have same effort tomorrow the way they played in the 3rd period.

I'd still say this team's scoring punch should not be judged based on the past 2 wins over the Stars (11 goals in those 2 games) given that they were shooting on a no-name goalie. But then again, the goals against should also return to normal once Kipper returns.

Gonna be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

Difference I am seeing this year is instead of 2 bad periods, and one good one, they are having 2 good periods and 1 bad one.

It's coming along folks.

Calgary is 7-1-2 in its past 10 games vs. the Stars.

Blair Jones talks about being on waivers....

Quote:
“Maybe it can serve as motivation or a wakeup call or a little extra juice to get you to work that much harder at being a better player.”
Quote:
“It definitely caught me off guard,” said the 26-year-old. “But, it’s out of my control. Not much I can do.”

“It’s pretty tough,” he said. “Your mind is racing. You don’t know the outcome. You don’t know where you may or may not end up. You just don’t know what’s going to happen. So it’s tough. You’re just thinking so much. It was tough to sleep (Saturday) night, that’s for sure.”
Quote:
Sunday morning, before the waiver period ended, coach Bob Hartley had been asked — what do you need to see out of him?

“I don’t know yet,” said Hartley. “I’ll answer this (Monday).”

Post game comments......

Quote:
“It feels good, but the most important thing is we came out with two points,” said Begin, who sat out all of last season with a hip injury and hadn’t scored since the 2010 playoffs. “We needed those points and that’s a huge win. We’ve got to be proud of ourselves but we’ve got to bring the same intensity for the next few games.”
Quote:
“We showed lots of character. I’m very proud of our players,” said Flames coach Bob Hartley, whose club is 3-1-1 on the road this year. “We had a good talk after the second period. I told them if we want to build some foundation to be a playoff team, it’s games like this that we need to win.”

“Our forechecking was much better, but more importantly we put pucks at the net with traffic and we found those loose pucks,” Hartley said of the third period. “A great play by Stempniak on that short pass to Stajan. Tonight we had three huge goals in that third period.”
Quote:
“It’s been a long time and it’s been frustrating, ups and downs, good days, bad days,” said MacDonald, who last won an NHL game on March 9, 2012. “But tonight 30 shots, I felt pretty good in there for not playing in a while.”

I don't know for sure what the kid did, or said or whatever, but I hope he makes amends, gets another chance here, and makes the most of it.

Just a fourth liner I know, but he's young, has size, speed, grit, a small cap hit, plays center and is turning into a decent face off guy.
