Thought the same thing as soon as Irving was in.

Also made this PGT/goal celebration gif
I'll have to wait until I get a hold of the Detroit HD feed to make the Begin gif.

Anyone remember when Bertuzzo took that penalty in game 6 during the playoffs? Some stupid slashing calling the offensive zone for no reason. Man that guy is an idiot thank god sutter didn't resign him.

a great road game for the Flames - did what they had to do, and in the 3rd didn't give up many quality chances
I know he only has one goal and gets paid to score, but IMO, Iginla looks as good as he has looked in years. He's engaged, he's defensively responsible, he's been dangling... the points will come, because he is playing great
Brodie still makes the occasional rookie mistake, but he does so many things really well. His ability to just skate the puck out of trouble is amazing. And he is so poised with the puck. I hope they put him on the PP more so that he can keep doing his weak-side sneak - once the team knows where to find him, he is going to be dengerous. I honestly believe that, by the end of this season, there will be growing talk that he might be our best defenseman.
Is there anybody (other than Moon) that doesn't think Wideman was a great signing?
Kipper's injury might be a blessing in disguise - it'll force the Flames to give Irving some time, which they were reluctant to do. Let's see what he can do - we have to find out some time.

Wideman is currently 1 point back of Tanguay for the team lead..
I don't see how in the world anyone can Not be liking that signing at this point.
And noticeably impressive on the defensive side tonight too.

Nice to see the Flames didn't get discouraged by a loss after a solid effort but no finish the other night. Showing the the first glimmer of mental toughness in long while, hopefully they can continue it. The Flames we know would be prime candidates for feeling good about themselves after a good win and would likely roll into to Columbus and get complacent. But the Flames we know would have also likely gotten discouraged by the Chicago game and not stuck to the plan tonight, so lets see what Thursday shows us.
Also, why are the Flames snowballing each other in Detroit? Fricken weird!

Wideman is making me eat crow. And I'm totally fine with that. He looks damn good out there so far.

Everyone feeling a little lighter in their step, head up and looking at the horizon instead of checking out your shoes.
did you go out of your way not to kick the dog tonight, yell at the kids, drive your car through the neighbors kitchen?
Well I did that stuff anyways, but I did it with a we won smile on my face

On the sportsnet TV broadcast they cut to Kerr eating one of the Detroit players "swedish snowballs" that he has baked and sells for a charity. Kerr took a bit and then asked Simmer if he wanted the rest and Simmer pretended to mash it into Kerr's face. The whole thing was incredibly awkward and unintentionally funny. Then Kerr said "my hands are sticky" when they returned to the game broadcast.
The picture above explains it better than I did.

Admittedly I am not a systems guy by any means, but I really like how we usually have 2 forecheckers putting pressure on and even when they get beat the Dmen are still rarely hung out to dry. Got to think this is part of Hartley's system. Aside from Iggy and Cammy (both of whom looked real good tonight) everyone on the team is chipping in offensively, especially the defenseman. Wideman signing so far looks stellar, and the fact that JBo seems to be flourishing (relative to the last few years) really makes me more glad Brent is gone. Almost forgot how fun it is to watch a team who doesn't dump and chase all night long.

If Kerr's hands were sticky I don't think he's doing it right.

Best possible first goal by Iggy to get the monkey off his back - dirty and ugly in front of the net. Hope we see some more of that.
Did Smith actually bat the puck out of the air or did it hit the bar? Just caught the end of that play. Amazing if he saved it. Butler beat Datsyuk 1 on 1. Wideman and Gio putting up points. Bouw looked great again. D core is looking pretty solid offensively.
That swedish snowball thing was one of the most awkward, hilarious things I have ever seen. Couldn't stop laughing. The way Kerr bites it hahaha. So weird.
So glad Lidstrom and Holmstrom are out of Detroit!!
Hope Kipper's injury isn't too serious. Guess we'll see how Irving handles it. Maybe we'll bring in another team's third stringer and be set for the next seven years...
Anyone else think Hudler goes down rather easy? Think he's drawn at least four calls already this season.

Mediocre. That's how.
If they didn't have Datsyuk and Zetterburg they would be no where.

Detroit many people seem to forget are missing more than Lidstrom and Holmstrom. Also missing from the pie are Stuart, Rafalski, Hudler. That's a massive chunk of talent removed from you roster to only be replaced by Quincey, Tootoo,Huskins and Brunner (add Ian White as well if you want)? Massive downgrade of talent over all but yeah Lidstrom obviously and truly is the piece missed the most. Arguably Rafalski being the second most missed player out there.

After a quick check of NHL.com, Calgary's PP after 7 games is 5th in the league at 26.7%, only behind St. Louis (33.3%), Tampa Bay (32.5%), Edmonton (28.6%), and Ottawa (27.3%).
Unfortunately, their PK is 29th in the league at 69.6%, only better than Winnepeg (62.1%).
Very weird specialty teams stats. Hopefully that PK improves!

Great game tonight. The only time we saw the Flames do that chase-y, unconfident hockey was to start the 3rd. There were periods where Detroit turned it on and forechecked us for a while, but we still maintained composure. Confidence in the system is starting to come and I think the GA is going to remain low for the next little while.
It was fantastic to capitalize on some of our opportunities tonight.
Cervenka is struggling a bit. I think this started around the Colorado game. It's not particularly surprising and I'm thinking it's 100% off-ice stuff. I bet the culture shock for someone who speaks very little of the language is starting to set in. Let's not forget one month ago he was living on a different continent. Hopefully he can get adjusted.
This is a fun team to watch. I'm pulling for them and feel emotionally connected in a way I haven't in a long while. Probably since Darryl coached. I'm proud of them and the way they play and that makes all the difference.
