I'd eat a dog. I'd eat my own dogs if I had no other food. I'd probably apologize before killing them though.

I've grown up knowing dogs as pet and not food.
It's a societal norm, not a natural distinction but it's enough to make me not want to eat dog.
Had I grown up in a culture that looked at dogs like we see cows, yes I would certainly eat them.

Joe would look over the fence and laugh at Steve. He said Steve was a hypocrite. Steve believed in consuming less resources and was doing what he could to reduce his ecological footprint... but what an ass. He was tossing away all these compostable materials. Joe on the other hand didn't give a rats ass about the environment and therefore wasn't a hypocrite at all, no matter how much trash he threw to the curb each week.

By taking ANY moral stance that involves degrees (I will give more to charity because I feel the poor deserve a hand up; I will volunteer more because the community needs more people to pitch in) makes the person automatically a hypocrite. If you want give $1,000 to the United Way... why not $2,000? Or are you a hypocrite and don't REALLY believe that the poor need a helping hand? We all draw a line. And while Steve may be a hypocrite, I'd rather be him than Joe.
Do you have any arguments that don't involve BS analogies or attacking strawmen?

You can claim you are making a moral or ethical choice not to, but you have to understand that your personal morals or ethics are irrelevant to human biology. People need energy to live and we have evolved so that we extract that energy from consuming many different things, including animal proteins.

Your moral stance means nothing in the face of people's desire to stay alive.

Sure, if a dog was raised as a food animal, or if I was really hungry then give me a bottle of bbq sauce and call spot over.

It is different, I see Cows as food, I don't see people walking Lobsters and putting little sweaters and booties on them.

Society has seen fit, through the majority opinion, that it should have laws against kicking your dog.

There are probably laws against eating your dog.

We protect some types of perfectly edible animals but we permit the consumption of other kinds of animals.

There are no horse slaughterhouses in the USA, I think, but there are in Canada.

Different strokes for different folks.

Is it wrong that I eat dogs, have a pet cow that I could never eat on moral grounds and enjoy kicking carrots and celery?

*Gasp* I'm phoning PETA. And the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty and Consumption of Vegetables. In short order, Pamela Anderson and a giant tomato will appear on your doorstep to give you 40 lashes with a wet noodle.

Any idea of how much that would cost?

Vegetarians and vegans are some of the most absurd people. Eating meat or not eating meat should not be a political or moral concern. Honestly, the best way around this whole stupid debate would be to actually price things the way they should be priced; inevitably, the price of meat would increase, and consumption would decrease.

Personally, I don't eat much meat except for the organs, and varietal cuts, which I find much more interesting to prepare, and quite a bit more tasty to munch upon.

You can't be serious that you think killing a cow for its leg is the same as having it squirt is milk into a hug is the same thing.

Yep, there are no compromises in this world. You either do everything, or nothing.

I used to be concerned about all the gas my Honda guzzled, but I live in Calgary, so walking and riding my bike year-round was out of the question.

Using less gas was out, so I bought an Escalade, and I leave it running all the time. It would have been absurd to even try anything else.

It says GBOGZ on my license plate.

Go Big Or Go Zero.

It's not the same, but that is not why he is a vegetarian.

And what is with all the dumb comparisons - kicking dogs, idling cars ect..

Haha at first I thought it was shorthand for "good bye ozone". Which also would've been apt.

The spider would have a much better death if you squashed it rather then the slow freezing death here in the winter no?
