Since Lucas butchered the recent 3 movies, I'm more excited by the purchase over the possibility of a new X-wing series game. Its been far too long since X-wing Alliance

I'd rather Ben Affleck direct it than Kevin Smith. Even if he has never worked on anything close to a sci-fi movie, at least we know he is a capable director.
I hope he steps up and directs the Justice League movie actually, just not in an acting capacity as well.

One thing I would like to see in ep 7 is if there are stormtroopers...have them be able to take more than 1 laser blast...make them a bit more menacing. I mean what was the point of the armor other than looking cool?
Also I hope they don't turn the coolest characters into chumps...the way Jango and Boba went down was pretty pathetic.
And last but not least everyone involved with the new trilogy must watch Red Letter Media's reviews of the prequel trilogy before doing anything else.
I think Genndy Tartakovsky could be the man for the job, or one of the men anyways. The Clone Wars cartoons he made were easily the best thing to come out of the prequels (imo), and made it seem like he understood the material better than anyone else. He also has a proven ability to create mythical, futuristic worlds with a lot of character and strange creatures, a la Samurai Jack. He's only directed one feature film (Hotel Transylvania), but it did $200m+ at the box office.
This is probably the best thing anyone has ever done with stormtroopers:

I might be in the minority but I would enjoy seeing what a director, who is actually a big fan of Star Wars would do with the franchise. I am thinking some one like Kevin Smith. I think he would be able to keep it fun and light. I dont want a Nolan or JJ Abrams retooling of Star Wars.
uhhh...Kevin Smith loved the prequels. almost more than the original trilogy. whether that's genuine or just sucking up to George, that alone makes him probably the worst possible choice for director.

or Tie Fighter, dammit! for some reason I also have the strategy guide for it that describes the life of the pilot you're playing. really interesting because from his perspective the Rebels were a bunch of dangerous anarchists and he was only doing his part in keeping the galactic peace.
in fact, a retelling of the war with the Rebel Alliance from an Imperial point of view has the potential to be seriously interesting. but it will never happen because there's too many damn continuity errors to worry about. easier to start fresh with either a reboot or after Battle of Endor story.
Actually I was thinking about something yesterday. I Remember a few months ago when the director of Captain America was talking about how he'd love to do a Boba Fett movie. Perhaps with Disney owning both Marvel and now Star Wars this could actually happen.

Agreed. Kevin Smith has no grip on reality when it comes to Star Wars. I don't think the series needs any uber fans getting their hands on it.
I'd actually like to see a director who isn't quite as fanatical about Star Wars be given a chance. Maybe to really breathe new life into it you need someone involved who has less vested interest in what Star Wars already is.

Theres a difference between handing something to a fan and handing something to a qualified enthusiast.
I'm a huge fan. Biggest problem with that would be that you offer too much respect to the idea of it and arent willing to bend on things that would make it better or worse. The idea of it is too rigid.
Smith for instance is such a huge fan that he'd watch 2 and a half hours of George Lucas taking a dump and would clap bravo and hand over a box of All-Bran at the end.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

this isn't even an analogy...this is exactly what we all did when we paid to watch the prequels.
It may have been said but let's get lots of nice practical non-CG effects on this.
Bring back the scale models!
In my opinion using models has always given the spacecraft a very realistic look. I think Starship Troopers may have been one of the last movies to go this route.

I waited and waited for something funny to happen, and it never did . . . it NEVER DID!! Now I'm three minutes closer to death with nothing to show for it.
