So now the RCMP say that anonymous has outed the wrong guy..Also in the paper was this.


"A man with a similar name as the one published by Anonymous appeared in Surrey Provincial Court Tuesday on a charge each of sexual assault and sexual interference of a person under 16.
But there are several differences, such as a different age and name spelling. The man named by Anonymous is 32-years-old, while the man in court is 19. The former appears to use a shortened version of the latter’s name, though both share the same last name.
According to CTV, the 19-year-old knew Todd, but had already talked to police.
RCMP investigated that file before the courts in early September. Crown spokesman Neil MacKenzie said the allegations are dated between Aug. 1 and Sept. 1 and are unrelated to Todd in any way."

This is still a big concern for me. Let's say I am a jerk and don't like HPLoveCraft for some reason, so I go and sign up his username on a bunch of weird porn sites. So ANON comes along, finds out his real identity on CP and then attributes that to all of these questionable porn sites, and then outs him in public. I didn't see any ip addresses listed on the dox listing for the guy that ANON found. So, I am just a bit sceptical of the thoroughness of their detective work in this particular case. I mean, if a bully wanted to mess up somebody's life this is a pretty way to do it by having their name plastered all over the internet accused of sex crimes.

That's why I think ANON should have just handed this over to the RCMP only, if they found evidence then sure plaster it everywhere on the net.

I find it funny that Anonymous outs these people for trying to get young girls to give them revealing images of themselves, when I guarantee a large enough segment of Anonymous does the exact same type of stuff on 4chan.

I have no doubt that was his intent. People do it on here all the time. But it still plays to the same point brought up in this thread that there is a problem with the anonimity of these types of things where people think just because theyre not directly saying it to someone they can say pretty much anything they want and somehow it doesnt matter or count.

Yes, I am sure he strapped on his lab coat, was collecting the results to make up a totally LEGIT Venn diagram, and publish a thesis. He was genuinely unsure, and curious of what the reaction would be to praising the death of, and post posthumously insulting an underage teenager. Who could have thunk the outcome would have been public outrage, and the loss of your job.

I never said he did it with good intentions. What he said in the article to me can be paraphrased to..."I wanted to troll a bunch of people to see their reactions"

What I'm saying is I have no doubt that he did it purposely to see peoples reactions. I didnt mean to imply that he had some type of ongoing study. I dont think even he implies that.

EDIT: Just to be clear, I think what he posted is completely out of line and him being fired for doing it is perfectly fine with me. I just don't think his interview was an attempt at making it seem like this is something he documents and is planning to release a paper on it or something. He was just trolling, with an insanely idiodic remark.

Social experiment or not...claiming “sorry if I offended anybody and that it wasn’t portrayed in the way it was supposed to be" is a ####ty excuse when the comment that started it all is "Thank god the bitch is dead" to a teenage girl who just committed suicide. He really has no reason to be upset about it, let's be honest he didn't know the girl, and as tragic as it is, I don't think any stranger is truly going to lose sleep over this, nor is it going to have a detrimental effect on their life.

So besides getting some sort of rise out of making a comment like that... it could be argued he is glad she died. It gave him something to do with 30 seconds of his pathetic life, in the hopes he would get some sort of peer approval. I truly believe their are people that feed off of others misery, and get joy out of it.

I wish they'd use their skills a bit more constructively and verify their findings. Really, the wrong address is posted? They could have verified that easily enough before potentially unleashing riotous vigilantes. Now the cops, who should be investigating, have to worry about putting out press releases to leave these people alone. It's so sloppy, I don't understand it. They seem pretty flippant about the mistake on their Twitter feed. At best the got the right guy, at worst they gave the perp a head start to wipe any evidence before the police can investigate it and lay charges.
