Seriously? At that time the PLO army basically controlled South Lebanon and were using their base there to launch rocket attacks against northern Israel. If the PLO wasn't allowed to stay there, by the Lebanese, the Israelis would never have invaded Lebanon.

I don't claim to be an expert on middle east history or politics, but come on.....how can you claim what you are claiming and then say you don't know anything about them...

If your parents were a part of the 1982 war, how can you NOT know who the PLO are.

Still curious as to why, as a Canadian citizen (he is a Canadian citizen isn't he?), he was denied entry into Israel.

I'd love to know why as well.
And yes I'm Canadian, born and raised in Calgary.

Because they weren't part of the war. They were caught in the middle.
I never claimed to be an expert in middle eastern history.

They're probably wise to be cautious with Canadian passports, based on their past exploitation of them.

Caught in the middle means they are part of it. The PLO also played a major part of it, and if your parents lived in Lebanon leading up to the 1982 war, it was likely they knew all about the PLO.
So I guess they told you about all the bad stuff the Israelis did, but forgot to mention the PLO. No wonder you have such hatred for one side here.

Getting defensive from the out set, I like it.

You honestly think with a conflict like the middle east, one side is 100% right?

Of course I don't.
Onto the next strawman.

The following book review gives examples of just a few of things Chomsky leaves out:

I'm going to assume you've read the book to corroborate your opinion on review? It'd be pretty self-absorbed to think you can understand a book by reading the review, Right? I mean, that'd be pretty shoddy, for me to recap the Flames game based on an Eric Francis article.
Quote:
Also interesting that a man who is trained as a linguist and philospher, and not a historian, is the ultimate source on the middle east history.
|
Not that interesting, for me anyway. A guy who studies language also happens to read books and journals. I wouldn't call that ground breaking.
Now, from the amazon book review you provided, there are a number of fallacies, we can call them 'misunderstandings' if the term 'lie' is too heavy. I don't have the book in front of me, and I don't care enough to fix that authors review for them with the footnotes that should go along with a critique of this nature, but, there is a good sprinkling of exaggeration.
The 'thousands' that died from these 'cross border' attacks prior to the 82 invasion isn't 'thousands. It's about 100. Over the span of about 15 years, and the 'border' being referenced in 'cross border' refers to the Syrian and Lebanese 'border' lands that were taken during the 67 war.
So, like, I guess the reviewer is right in that Chomsky doesn't refer to the Yom Kippur war. I would've missed it too if I was scanning for the term 'Yom Kippur'. If I'd read the book, though, I probably would've seen the events discussed more than once. Frankly, the guy won't shut up about the Golan Heights and the Sinai.
I mean, give it a rest buddy, I get it. Yeesh, talk about a one track mind.
If, you know, I'd read the book.

Yes Iraq was ruled by a brutal dictator. However, there was hope of a revolution just as we've seen in Libya and Syria. I'm not suggesting that it was about to happen. Either way, it has little do to with what I said and isn't really relevant to the conversation. Not sure why it was brought up.

I didn't support the Iraq invasion, but don't make it out to be some burgeoning paradise that was ruined by the US.

I recognize that this is an emotional issue but is it necessary to twist my words to fit your narrative?

Also, you can't paint all muslims with one brush. The Iranians are shi-ite. The arab world is largely Sunni. There are a lot of Sunnis who would love to see the Ayatollahs taken out.
|
Yep. Who was it that was painting with a large brush?
My point, in case you missed it, was that the West needs to learn from Iraq when dealing with Iran. If Israel does indeed strike against Iran it can not be with a scorched-Earth mentality and just hope that it'll turn out okay afterwards. Iraq is a lesson in what not to do.

Maybe try reading and you'll see I already explained myself. It doesn't matter what I say though you and the rest of the Israeli defence CP team really know how to twist words and ask irrelevant questions.

You really are amazing (in all your aliases). You hate Israel because they wouldn't let you into the country. Why would you go to a country you hate? No one is twisting words, yet you are twisting around history to make your story sound straight.

Of course it would be on your reading list, probably along with Protocols. This book is almost an accidental attempt to de-legitamize Judaism. Unfortunately they have scientifically proven the book to be false. I am fairly confident you found out about this book while trolling some of your favorite websites.
You know what else is interesting? The book was written in Israel, and even though the writer was full of it, he is allowed to be full of it in Israel. They do protect the same freedoms as Canada, including speech.
Instead of caring about the 'invention of the jewish people' how about you look into 'things invented by jewish people' or other contributions to the planet this small group of people have made.

Whoa dude. I just know about it because my girlfriend had to read it from one of her courses. I don't troll websites.
I'm not a raging anti semite for what it's worth. In fact, Israel is one of my top 5 places I want to travel to before I die. But please, continue to make up wild assumptions. It's more entertaining that way
